Fuck the Supreme Court. This is just step one in oppressing trans individuals in the United States.

What happened? :o

Trans people are no longer allowed to serve in the military. Not that I was ever going to the join the military, but we're still losing our rights because of how we identify.

I mean... I see why the discrimination itself is bad, and really shows how oppressive the US government can be, but not being able to serve in the military seems like a perk ^_^'

I wasn't allowed to serve in the military anyway, but I come from a poor area where that was the only option a lot of people had. I hate the US military but for a lot my friends, they didn't have a choice. Being trans isn't a choice, but I feel like I'm being punished for it. And I think this is the tip of the iceberg for the removal of trans rights in this country.

I'm hoping this trend will reverse in the next 2-5 years, there's been a lot of progress on trans rights in the last 10 years, I'm quietly confident that it will continue. There's a lot left to do.

banning trans from serving in the military. protect our transweirdos

The reason why the partial government shutdown of the century being that appalling for over a month is because the Democrats are desperate to impede Trump's campaign promises such as the wall and not getting him a second four-year term. On the other hand, Trump uses it for his continuing skepticism of climate change, slashing federal funding, among other things. I can clearly see a big pattern coming from him that maybe he should step down when given a chance.

It is not just the transgender people, but the rest of the LGBTQ communities that are feeling repulsed by the very government supposedly won them some rights but not full protection. The first of such events goes far back to the island of Lesbos in Greece as an example, but it did not grant them enough traction until well into the 20th century where they thrust the issue into place. As currently there is no way for the same gender to inherit the ability to reproduce unlike the old-fashioned male-female other than being able to marry together as one of the latest accomplishments in certain states recently. Chances are it is because science has yet to find a way to make it reality for LGBTQ to thrive seriously and nature itself did not intend to invent this, we did. Therefore it remains extremely trigger prone to this day for anyone not experienced into that subject, not even myself can handle all the drama and hatred.

So far, I only have roughly one or maybe two schoolfriends of that category since school despite being a LGBT-friendly state, after I graduated in a different school far away from them from miles, I never get to see these faces ever again.

Hatred towards immigrants, lack of political action for the climate crisis, the existence of nuclear weapons, cost of living/minimum wage, and mass incarceration.

A compromise on the Article 13 has been reached, but only for France and Germany. The compromise is said that it still requires all European money-making platforms filters except if it has been around for less than three full calendar years, turnover less than 10 million Euros, or not having reached five million different individuals. The final agreed upon text comes in just two days. If it goes ahead, it will proceed to a final vote just before this spring's elections across the E.U.

I've been finding myself rather concerned about climate change as of late... This world is such a wonderful place, and I wish to preserve its beauty and comfort for a thousand generations to come. But as it stands, everything looks like it might get worse for everyone, and nobody seems to care. :c

i don't have to worry about global warming and environmentalism because my president has already said these are marxist hoaxes to destroy judeo-christian civilization and impose communism on society

Phew, isn't that a relief!

I will not spare you any details on what is going on right now. First it was Net Neutrality that got me really piped last two years, then it is the E.U. copyright reform that will shove away freedom to just about everything copyrighted even the public domain to all 500 million Europeans, and now hear this. The UN wants to BAN underage anime and western cartoons both online and offline, heck, even having them around the house or with you counts if it goes into law worldwide. I can "guarantee" that everyone regardless of ideology, age group, gender preference, whether or not this is a 2D/3D concern due to uncertainty can be liable for criminal charges.

If this happens, expect the federal law agents to come knocking on your door and they will definitely be pissed about your unacceptable acts. It might even turn this we are all into as "illegal activity”, placed on the dark web, and will be cracked down by governments daily. Any sites that survive the introduction of such censorship will be blocked or shut down on sight. Some think of this as granting civil rights to over 90% of the anime population that are minors and getting rid of their creators that exploit, injure, even kill them, but I think of this as censoring creative freedom right at its core, the anime entertainment industry.

Child characters, seriously? Don't these people have, like, actual child-marriages to worry about?

I swear, between this and giving Saudi Arabia a seat on the Human Rights Council, the UN has got to be one of the most incompetent organizations I've ever known. First as tragedy, then as farce.

The Saudis also have seats on various women's rights councils because irony is dead.

And as an addendum, the UN has a lulzy track record when it comes to these kinds of proposals. If you see someone calling for the ban of manga it might be worth looking a bit into them.

Didn't they already try this last year or something? I can't imagine Japan voting for something like this.

I did not read any manga at all ever since I got into this place, and I am more into paying attention to what happens in my country, not in Japan. It is the bigger issues that get my attention like Net Neutrality. There were several attempts over the course of anime history trying to get it banned and failed, and now the UN becomes more serious than ever because they just had it enough and thinks everything two-dimenstional was a huge waste of money and some unnecessary lives. This might even go out to anime made in other countries too, and not just Japan itself. I will not even know when it is going to pass, and hope there is some petition or opposition in the council to vote against on this.

@[deleted] - Yes, very seriously, the UN decides that enough is enough. Anime has been around for over a century but as with everything, it is going to end very badly.

is it just me or are there more people than ever believing in wild conspiracy theories?

Probably doesn't help that a bunch of the older ones ended up being true, such as governments being controlled by corporations, governments and companies spying on the entire populace, etc

I think a quick read of psychological projection can be useful in the future, quite interesting as well. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Psychological_projection
There is some criticism but It's irrelevant.
Paper: https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/abs/10.1177/0146167203252969
I won't directly link you to libgen but you can always find these on libgen for scientific articles or scihub.

They ran 2 studies

In the first one, they make the participants take a test assessing their repressed anger. Then give them a fake result that says either they score above the normal normal or within the normal range.
Then ask them in a supposedly seperated experiment to read an essay about a stranger who "ambiguously displayed anger and hostility in dealingwith his landlord, a mechanic, and a sales clerk" then score their personality.
There are 14 traits but 3 of them are related to anger and the rest are not.
The people who received results that said they score higher on hostility score the stranger higher on hostility.
"Thus, when participants were particularly concerned about defending against having an undesirable trait, they tended to perceive that trait in another individual"
"allow-ing participants to project anger onto another individualwould reduce their own concerns about anger and, therefore, reduce the accessibility of anger-related concepts".

The second study is the same but this time anger is replaced by dishonesty.
The result is the same.

They addressed a lot of the issues and discussed a lot more in the paper but I think it's not really relevant to this conversation.
Conclusion: "The results of the current research do not imply thatprojection always facilitates denial and defensive distanc-ing from undesired traits, but they do indicate that atleast under some conditions it does. This suggests that itis time for contemporary psychologists to include classicprojection as one of the many strategies that people useto protect a positive self-image"
