The Senate has failed us Americans in regards to Net Neutrality with a 52-41, with the FCC retaining Ajit Pai, he is now going in for the ultimatum vote which means just the day before Thanksgiving, they'll announce it, and then the month after that, they'll put their true final vote in place before passing into law.

If this gets passed by nearly the end of this calendar year, this site and millions of others will be taken away, effectively and permanently catching us off-guard. No one else will come and save us until the next presidential term at the end of this decade or so (assuming we don't get plunged into WWIII).

This is a very, very serious U.S. only debate, it's been going on for as long as I ever lived, and I can ONLY hope this time the FCC will eventually lose and back off from repealing it.

Came across Reddit just to stop by for the latest net-neutrality related posts and this one shocked me to the core.

Is there literally anything we could do?

Anyone living in the U.S. from now until midnight November 22nd U.S. EST can phone in Congress, meet in person at their state capital, or shoot an email to their state representatives to sway them to the free internet side.
This is our only last line of defense we have now.

There's even a line of code from the BattlefortheNet site that can be inserted onto the site's header, too.

As it stands now, we're on the losing side with these numbers, but this will change with time.

people hating each other for political and/or religious differences

This may be my last major warning about Net Neutrality and I can say this only once.

If we don't get ourselves together to the fullest by getting more than half of our state representatives here in the United States swaying over to the free internet side by December 14th, this and many other sites (changing domain name won't affect ISP recognition) will definitely be blocked/censored once it passes into law. We won't be able to get everything done, and any future attempt in getting this back or starting over anew will be impossible until the next presidential term. Pretty much everything we hold so dear (games, memes, or just surfing in general) will be overtaken by our ISPs.

Even if we are successful, in which I highly doubt it despite my optimist point of view, telecom giants will inevitably try again until they succeed. Though Net Neutrality itself is only two years old, the debate goes far back to the late 90's. We tried everything from comments, flyers, getting the Senate to kick the chairman out of office, it didn't work. Their advantage is that they are sneaky, clever, and bolder.

Also, some of the latest technology won't operate at their best unless Net Neutrality is repealed.

That most would think its wrong that I'm with soneone with a age condition that make them look very young

There's going to be a mass wave of protests in Verizon stores all over the United States starting around this last calendar month from the 1st to 13th.
Such protests might be used as a very last chance. We are down to just two weeks here in the 50 states.

I also have to give a heads-up on cryptocurrencies and torrenting, that without Net Neutrality, ISPs can permanently shut down all attempts on your next transaction of Bitcoin or other internet currencies, and prevent you from uploading/downloading torrents.

Any new sites, affiliates, apps/features, or devices that pop up will be affected too. Mobile and laptop users are no exception, either.
The huge downside is we don't have as much choice in choosing an ISP and for some of us don't even have a choice because there is little competition.

I am still getting no word from the FCC or Congress right now, so I just have to sit tight until the final vote comes in.

Well I'll be damned. Those cyberpunk authors were right after all.

Yeah, things really ain't lookin' good. I doubt people are gonna let this go down without a fight, but I wouldn't be surprised if the vast majority of private trackers and imageboards established some presence on I2P. You should totally check it out sometime. 🙂

I have to say, this is truly it against my optimist stance. The majority of us Americans across all political spectrums are very sad to see it gone. While it may survive in other countries such as the UK, Canada, and elsewhere, the last thing right now is left up to the courts and the Federal Trade Commission to keep ISPs big and small in check, but with only so little power.

If the overturn decision from the courts after the repeal is successful, the FCC will be put to shame for their illegal actions, but if not, the moment our ISPs start taking control, then our time is finally up, and it will become even harder or even impossible to bring it back until the next election.

My final words to the FCC? Shame on you! You just sold all of us out with nothing but impurity and ignorance of the Commonwealth. I'll have you all fined and put in jail for this.

So is Net Neutrality dead for real this time?

I absolutely agree enough to answer that question that the battle to defend the Internet in the U.S. is completely lost, by 3-2.

I'm honestly exhausted. The best part is that people - libs and conservatives - are likely just gonna forget about this and accept it as another fact of life, just like the ongoing wars in the Middle East.

I can't wait till they charge extra for hosting websites. Or better yet, force all torrenting to move to I2P. I wanna imagine there'd be a public backlash, but the corporate media ensures people aren't well-informed unless they go out of their way to seek the truth, and most tech professionals I've met are classcucked to high hell.

One thing's for certain: Come the revolution, Ajit Pai gets an express ticket to Canadian gulag.

What makes you so sure they'll allow I2P?

I'm sure they'll allow it - assuming you sign up for the VPN and Proxies™ package.

As expected after I watched the live voting process on the FCC's official site, they just repealed it.

My life, hopes, and dreams is shattered on this day. :c

The Net Neutrality thread on NationStates is a complete and utter shitstorm. On one hand we've got leftists (and even liberals!) citing cold, hard facts, while the conservative opposition is desperately arguing that it'll increase competition.

I'll never get these folks who shill for large corporations. They literally get nothing out of it, but they'll defend them to the death.

I remember years ago when "Net Neutrality must survive" wasn't a controversial statement.

So obviously all the big household-name websites are gonna be cut up into specific categories but what exactly is gonna happen to small and obscure websites like this one? Are they going to be dumped into a Miscellaneous package or are they just going to be flatout inaccessible since ISPs won't care about them?

I doubt this website will be blocked, but I bet it will be throttled.

So after today, how many school shootings is the US up to this year?

The tally is at 18 now. It was at 12 only two weeks ago. That was quite the sobering search.

That's just incredible, really. I'm sure nothing will be done and every incident will be forgotten when a new one happens.
