Loving the "Find Hentai" button on what's supposed to be the family-friendly site
There's also a "Find Yaoi" button that seems to show up on anything non-female related.
I'm running out of box space >.<

I recently bought frames for the Vocaloid posters I got off Etsy. Check 'em out, loves! ^~^

-snip-
Cute! Surprising how much better a poster looks when it's in an actual picture frame ^_^
Nice type Is :^)
sighs Y'know, it's not that I bought this that I'm disappointed in... It's the fact that I bought an extra, just in case something happened to the first.
Welp, seeing as I'm turning my room into the ultimate weeb cave, I might as well stick it in a frame~... I've also got a couple wallscrolls that came in the mail too. Juust gotta find where to put 'em, now. ^~^

I've gotta say, seeing all the different kinds of art all around a room really sounds awesome, but I've never got anything for myself like it.
Is there any place that's a good starting point for shopping for that kind of stuff? I wouldn't mind to pick up a few for myself, as my room is incredibly bare at the momment.

Riiight, now that I'm finally free of those damn migraines for a day, [ doesn't help that my insurance is refusing to pay for one of my medicines till they process some paperwork for the new year~ >_<' ], I can finally respond to this thread like I've wanted to!
So, where to buy wall art? Well, since your walls are totally bare, you might wanna ask yourself is if you want wall scrolls, or posters.
Wall scrolls, obviously, have the advantage of being easy to store. But they also have a hidden benefit, in that large wall scrolls will cancel echoes that bounce off the bare walls. You can get an idea what I mean by entering a bare room, and producing a nice, firm clap of your hands.
However, since they cost more to produce, they have much less variety than posters, seemingly being made entirely by the company who produced the anime. Your best bet is to look on large e-retailers such as Amazon. Custom options do exist, but again, they don't come cheap. ^^'7

Posters~, on the other hand, are a completely different animal. While (most) posters never get as big as a 32 inch scroll, their cheaper production cost means most artists simply sell their own prints after producing them in-house, or getting bulk orders from a production company. This is great, since it means almost all the money goes to the creators, but it also means posters offer a huge variety of different aesthetics. ^~^
You can find posters on Amazon and the like, but they're honestly really crappy and generic IMO. The best bet is to go to either a specialty arts-and-crafts selling website like Etsy, or to the homepage of your favorite artist. Respective examples, below~.

Of course~, one major caveat is that you'll want your posters to have frames, which will cost extra money. And if you don't have anywhere to hang those frames, you'll need to shell out for heavy duty Command Strips, which brings the price up to par with most large wall scrolls, honestly.
It's still totally worth, IMO. Hope this helps, even a little! ^^"

Anyone else finding figures to be egregiously expensive these days?
Take https://myfigurecollection.net/item/1819291, for example. 20k JPY for what is a nice-looking, but otherwise very basic 1:7 scale figurine. I remember the first 1:4 scale I got (https://myfigurecollection.net/item/287934) cost significantly less, at just over 12k JPY.
It seems like manufacturers are starting to just take the piss.
Now 35k for a comparable figure: https://myfigurecollection.net/item/1825624

malmon I suppose figurines got and stayed expensive much like anything else. But it almost doesn't seem too bad now, compared with the inflation of everything else!
30k JPY for a pretty damn nice-looking 1:7 Shiro: https://myfigurecollection.net/item/3055609
Although it seems like 1:4 prices have remained rather stable, e.g. this Reze for ~33k https://www.amiami.com/eng/detail/?gcode=FIGURE-196035
The Yen being quite weak right now at least takes some of the edge off. 33k JPY for the Reze is nearly 3x the price I paid for my 1:4 Index, but actually converted to GBP, it don't think it's a whole lot more. Looking back through my emails, the index came out to £121, while the Reze would be around £156. Considering inflation in the UK since then, the Reze is probably cheaper now than Index was in 2016.
Rambling about markets aside, I've been browsing MFC and AmiAmi again recently, and, aside from the Shiro, this garage kit of Best Girl has caught my attention: https://myfigurecollection.net/item/3244756
Now, I've never bought a garage kit before. Truth be told, I can barely be trusted to paint a wall let alone a figurine, but I can't help but notice that this seems like, by far, the best 1:4 sculpt of Misaka that anyone has made. My thinking is that, while I'm currently useless at painting, this one actually doesn't look like it would be too difficult of a starting point. Hear me out:
- It looks like there are maybe 5 or 6 solid colours needed
- It doesn't look like there's a whole lot of detail needed
- She's quite large, so the smaller details will hopefully be more forgiving
The trickiest parts would probably be her stockings, followed by the buckles on her suspenders and cuff links.
I'm assuming that, by virtue of being a 3D object, the texturing and shading work is largely already taken care of.
Is there anyone here with actual experience that could weigh in on whether this would be a good or bad idea?
Now in the spirit of buyfagging, I also have these two on order <3
Somewhat frustratingly, Taito are also releasing a variant of the prize figure, which also looks really cool, but seems to be exclusive to their online crane games. Since I already spent an embarrasing amount of my travel budget when I visited Japan last year on these stupid games (I won literally nothing), I'm not sure how to feel about this. I'd say the red and black style probably looks better to me overall, but I love how the blue and white makes it look like she's wearing her signature safety spats underneath.
Finally got the prize figure in the other day, and decided to actually try out my ancient DSLR on her. Not sure if I mentioned it before, but I got the EOS 50D bundled together with a Canon A1 in an auction lot. I tried it out a couple of times briefly outdoors, and I wasn't really happy with the results - washed-out colours, and slide-film-tier dynamic range. But with some effort, I think I got a pretty nice pic of Misaka...
It was a bit of a struggle in poor lighting, no tripod, and meh kit lens (no macro), but I thought it was a pretty nice pic after some minor editing.
The other figure also came in a while ago, but I haven't really sorted out a place for her yet, and getting the parasol upright is very fiddly.
