And as for not leaving the house, there's lots of ways. Some people get food delivered to their door, some people have live-in assistants, but me, I'm just living with my parents right now.

I realize otakus are a thing in Japan, and I've seen plenty of pitiable greentexts on the 4chan highlight reels; but I never understood why anyone would consciously choose to be a shut-in. Sure video games are fun, but I can't play for more than six hours without getting kinda restless and agitated; desperate to go outside and talk to someone. Maybe that's just me.

The answer's actually very simple: it's not a conscious choice. By the time you realize you're a shut-in you've usually been doing it for a while and often have no hope of really ever changing it.
