Halloween Game: Escape From Hallokyo (RPG story)

Posts

>You enter Hallowtown
>You find out its a celebration for now having its 9th addition to the realm

What will the party do?

>You all look around the town's plaza, there is many "people" around

A: Talk to the mayor
B: Enjoy the party
C: Go to Cirno
D: Speak to a little girl who is the chief of security of the realm
E: You see a statue of a closed door in the center of the plaza, and want to investigate it

Lucina's party chooses A, they head over to see the mayor. Getting to know the representatives within the town hall first is always a good idea.

>Lucina walks into the town hall and knocks hard twice on the door, then speaks.

Lucina: "Is anyone in charge of this town we seek audience with? I'm Lucina, and these three are my acquaintances."

While they waited, Avery sat himself beside their youngest traveling partner on the steps leading to the door.
Relm was her name, a painter of sorts. Avery's ingrained instinct was to study her sharply, seeking any twitch or mannerism that might betray her true nature. But then he noticed the  glimmer in her eyes, the gentle, genuine smile spread across her dimpled face. In that moment, his cynicism suddenly left him, and as he turned his gaze away he felt the tension in his shoulders ease considerably.

Avery: "... That's really somethin'."

Their conversation would continue once they'd watched a ghost waft lazily down the crowded square, passing through patrons and vendor stalls as if they weren't even there.

Avery: "We didn't get many painters in my homeland. As it happened, there were many with the talent, but the republic's aristocracy instead made them till the fields or work the mills, all day long."

Avery glanced back at the door. No response. Another lull. Then, with a sigh, Avery unbuttoned the top of his jacket and produced a small bolt of cloth from within.
It was a curious specimen, a crimson armband stained with dirt and a few flecks of dried blood. The golden sigil was particularly peculiar - A stalk of grain within a gear, crowned with a radiant star.

Avery: "I fought against that for nearly a year, sought to mend man's injustice to man. Then one thing led to another and, welp, here I am."

Only now would he glance back over to his travel partner. She might've been interested, but the confusion was plain on her face. Avery just laughed.

Avery: "Bah, listen to me ramble on. You kids don't hafta worry about that stuff; at the very least, I'd hope not."

> As he said this, he took off his scarf before offering it to her.

Avery: "... On another note, aren't you cold? I don't mind."

>An imp opens the door welcomes the party inside
>They head to the door labeled Mayor
>The door opens and the same pumpkin man walks out
>He bows his head in awknoledgement and walk out of city hall
>A metalic looking man approches the party from the mayor office

"Ah the tourists. How may I be of assitance?" says the man

Avery: "Heh, now that's what I call a 'Tinpot Dictator'."

He'd glance over at Lucina.

Avery: "I'll let you take the lead on this one, cutie."

>Lucina saw the exact figure the party encountered a bit ago, still sensing the same feelings of hospitality as before.
>She curtsies in return, and then asks him something important:

"Is there something we as a traveling group to do, like some fetching work?"

>Lucina is a bit concerned about Avery's current etiquette and warns him.

"Avery, watch your tongue, we don't want to anger the locals, especially in front of him, that's rude. This is your first strike."

>Relm gives a little pout and places her hands on her hips.

"Aw, you don't need to be so strict with him Lucina! He's just trying to lighten the mood is all."

>She casts a glance at metal man standing in front of the mayor's office.

"You don't mind do you, Mister Mayor? Avery didn't mean any harm."

>Mayor chuckle

Mayor: "Of course not. Humor is hard to come by here...anything is better than that damn Jester."

"Fetch work eh? I don't think it would be good for me to have our guests doing slavor work"

>He says with chuckling

"Why not jut have fun in the celeration...now that I think about it, there is one..."

>he stops talking
"It might be too dangerous"

As he observed, Avery ran a hand just under his left chest. His sack of coin felt awful trim within his coat.
Even if his travel partners were loaded, he'd hate having to rely on them. Besides, who knew? Maybe this whole adventuring gig would be fun!

Avery: "We're listening, mayor. What's the story?"

"We have gotten reports of people going missing over at Cursed Bridge"

GM: Here is the Quest info

>Lucina's party is now back on the road, southwest this time. The bridge is a long ways apart (4.3 km), so it might take some walking before we can get to our destination.

>The night begins to grow ever thicker, and the sky turning a dark crimson. Red street lights pop into view to illuminate the way, but after some distance, the party begins to grow uneasy with where they are going, triggering Lucina's awareness.

Lucina: "Easy now, we're getting used to walking, but I have a strong feeling we are about to run into something." she lowers her voice to a whisper "Keep your eyes and ears peeled."

< OOC: Sorry about the wait, I've just been busy lately. I'll try to make more time for next week though. ^^

Also, no love for the Soul Eater soundtrack? Shoot, I'd reckon it was practically made for a battle like this:
Scoped Rifle-Crossbow
Attack: 10/10
Speed: 6/10
Block: N/A
What happened next would remain a blur in Avery's recollection. The abomination's mount thundered down the narrow stone bridge, seemingly hellbent on trampling him underfoot. There was a brilliant flash that lit the scene, and the distinct sound of metal on metal. When he'd finally regained awareness, Avery found himself crouched behind a large rock beside the cobblestone path. Relm was with him, and he was sure Scarlet couldn't be far off.
Meanwhile, Lucina took the fight to the abomination alone. Avery couldn't quite grasp how she managed it, but the young lass stopped the horse dead in its tracks, giving him a clean shot with his crossbow.
As he nocked the bolt and squinted through the sights, Avery ran a quick calculation in his head. His opponent's plate armor would scoff at his crossbow bolts, and headshots were obviously out of the question. Instead, he observed the silhouette as it juked and swung at Lucina, noted where the moonlight gleamed off its burnished metal. And where it didn't.
When the moment was right - as he raised his arm to cast one of those pumpkins - he clenched his teeth and squeezed the trigger.
The bolt pierced the leather under his right arm, just above where his curiass guarded his side. As it left through his open neck, great columns of azure flame violently profused from the wounds, charring the treetops and setting the brush ablaze at his feet.
Avery felt a flash of terrifying glee, but it didn't last. The wounds quickly closed, and his disembodied head cast a furious glare towards him and Relm.

Avery: "Aw hell, this ain't lookin' good!"

Avery scores a critical hit on the horseman for 3X damage, leaving him with 5.4/10 pumpkins left!

>Lucina tells the party to step away from the flames, especially Remilia.
>She have a plan, she wants Remilia to throw her spear at him to make him fall off his horse, so that the rest of the party will finish off.
>At the same time, while the flames are harming the forest, she also wants Relm to cast a rainstorm to put it out, as well as make this boss easier to handle due to the soaking ground.

Lucina: "Remilia, use your Gungnir on him, that should make him tip over and turn the tide in our favor. Relm, see if you can paint the skies a torrential downpour, if you can."

>The faster this boss gets finished before he starts dealing damage, the better chances of survival.

"Alright! Let kill this foolish thing!"

>Throws Gungnir knocking him down and causing him go down to 4.4

This is wew taking forever, will be past halloween at this speed

>The horse man attems to get up but is dazed and confused as his head is no where near him

>Loses turn to attack back

Alright, we'll keep things snappy then.

In his opponent's confusion, Avery lands another shot, this time on the back of his knee. The steel bolt carved a wide hole in his black flesh, invited a jet of flame that damn near singed their faces.
The horseman loses another full pumpkin of health, bringing him to just 3.4/10!
