He said he got so sleepy and slept, which I quickly said f this and put on Deadpool for me and my older nephew. Half way thru I realized my younger nephew was awake (again?) and quickly put on lilo and stitch... which isn’t bad btw would finish deadpool but yonger kids should watch that lol

The Witch. Pretty good for a director's debut film, cinematography and production were both excellent. Not really suspenseful though.

Rewatched Arrival. It was neat to watch it again knowing what's actually going on and notice all the bits of foreshadowing that flew under my radar the first time around.

Les Parpluies de Cherbourg (1964) Jacques Demy - 7/10
The Umbrellas of Cherbourg

I rather liked Demy's The Young Girls of Rochefort and this is similarly visually pleasing, though I found the cinematography a bit more stagy. It's a kind of an opera in the sense that every line is sung and they aren't structured like songs. Overall it's pretty good, but I guess I preferred the traditional musical numbers of Rochefort. Absolutely stellar opening credits sequence though, one of the best I've seen in some time.

The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou

It might be my favorite of the three Wes Anderson films I've seen since it makes Grand Budapest Hotel and Moonrise Kingdom seem grounded in comparison, which opens up more avenues for a zany experience.

The Firm

Decent crime thriller. I would've like it more if the soundtrack hadn't been trying its best to kill any and all tension most of the time.

Guardian's of the Galaxy Vol 2. Was fan-fucking-tastic. Great film and I can't wait to watch it again when it comes out on blu rays.

Split, Hacksaw Ridge, and Manchester by the Sea are the three I've seen most recently. The second two were more or less what I had been expecting but Split surprised me as its trailers made it out to be yet another campy movie of Shamalamadingdong's. Turned out it was actually well put together and intriguing.

I can't tell you how happy I am that someone else here loves it!

I was the opposite way around: I watched the movie and it had a big impression on my taste in music. I started being a metalhead after seeing it for the first time.

julien donkey-boy is great, though I find its pacing a bit less smooth and its scenes a bit more forced. I'd rank them like this I suppose:

  1. Gummo - 10/10
  2. Spring Breakers - 9/10 (curious what you'll think of this)
  3. Trash Humpers - 8/10
  4. julien donkey-boy - 7.5/10
  5. Mister Lonely - 5/10

I wouldn't say any of his films really approach even close to Gummo, but they all have their own strengths.

Watched Starship Troopers for the first time. Good stuff, I thought it had a really great blend of practical and computer effects.

Saw Logan last night. I'd heard that it was actually quite good despite the clout surrounding the most recent X-Men movies and I was not disappointed. It's well made enough that you don't really need any prerequisite knowledge of X-Men lore to understand what's going on or feel invested in the story. I thought it was a nice way to dedicate Hugh Jackman's departure from the series.

Gaurdians of the Galaxy 2.
Something about it wasn't as good as the first one. But overall it was still a blast. I need to wtach it again to pinpoint what I did not like about it.
It's really fun from the beginning though with some great preformances.
