What's so good about it? People scream that it has focus in economics when it seems to gloss over it at best and anyone who says it has no fanservice becomes a liar by the first episode titled "Wet Wolf Ass; The Terrible Story Setup".
Yet still its hailed as genre-breaking and absolutely mind blowing. I'm just not seeing it.
It's an exception. In an age consisting of stupid shounens, overdramatized shoujos or generic mechas the creators of Spice and Wolf had the courage to create something that doesn't befall none of those categories. So the anime that more than anything focuses on a relationship between a human and a wolf goddess, as they travel across their world, exposing the rules of the economy there. If you can't grasp it, it's okay, it's not like it's a masterpiece.
I have no other explanation. I liked the anime, and I thought it's rather clever to at least touch the topic of economy.

I agree. Spice and Wolf, or generally just any of Isuna Hasekura's works, deviate from the usual genre of content and is refreshing in a way. It's not something I would hail as 11/10 or genre-breaking, but I still liked the Spice and Wolf series anyway, mainly because it was fun watching and reading (from the light novels) the interaction between the two main characters. He also has another work that I prefer more, a visual novel titled World End Economica, that is quite similar in the sense that it tackles economics.
Read the manga. It's tons better than the anime. It's worth the read.
I also haven't seen this but from what the people posted it seems great to watch. I might give it a shot.
I think you should to op.
It was a good series. The manga is definitely better, though.
Spice and Wolf is yet another thing I've been meaning to get into for a while.

you should definitely give it a watch. it was really good in my opinion. it did have a good focus on economics, as he was a traveling merchant, and the romance is really sweet in it.
Spice and wolf is a really good anime, you should totally watch it, it flows nicely and has a noice story line. A all round good animu
