The great Marijuana debate!

Posts

Alright guys, hate it or love it, marijuana is something you have an opinion of. Whether you've never touched the stuff, or are stoned every day, I want you to drop some thoughts/knowledge below.

So, here's what I think.

Marijuana, when used for the right reasons, can be one of the most pleasant experiences you'll ever find yourself experiencing. Now, it doesn't work the first time. Don't expect crazy-ass results after the first use, it's only opening up the THC/CBD receptors in yer brain. I honestly can't find a single flaw other than the fact that it's still illegal and people are serving jail time over possession of trace amounts (or pounds of it). What the hell is wrong with that? Even those that are just dabbling with the thing are at risk of jail time. Now, it's not all bad. Some will argue that it can ruin your life. This is only possible if you devote your time to weed over what you /should/ be doing. They're not exactly the best examples, but look at Wiz Khalifa. Snoop Dogg. Tommy Chong. Each one technically revolves their lives around weed, but they still get shit done. Hell, who are you to judge if they're rolling in money just from smoking (technically)?

Bad experience? Try that shit again. Honestly. You're not gonna regret it.

The benefits for the cultivation/sale of cannabis is HUGE. With the right taxation, the government turns in a MASSIVE profit and all the stoners are pleased. Don't wanna damage your lungs? Make edibles. Vaporize it. Hell, make weed tea if you'd rather drink it. There are hundreds of ways to ingest THC.

questions lemme know. i wanna get to the bottom of this shit. i'm sick of it being badmouthed by those who haven't tried it or don't know what they're talking about.

I went to high school with a some people who did well in school.  Once they started smoking weed, they quickly became lumped in with the "potheads." They were dirty all the time, they stunk, they frequently missed school.  Everything thing they did do revolved around getting more pot.  They were complete messes.  Fast forward to today.  I long stopped talking to anyone I went to school with.  There are very few people in my life right now.  The very few of my current acquaintances who smoke weed (as I have no close friends who do this) are known as unreliable and lazy. They often put smoking ahead of their responsibilities.  Basically, any pot smoker who I have dealt with face to face or on a daily basis, has turned out to be unreliable and flaky.

I know I sound like I'm super against pot, but I'm really not. Frankly, prohibition has always had a much more negative effect than allowing usage.  It's legal in the state north of me and I pray its gets legalized here. You asked my opinion and here it is.  Just like any drug, it has consequences to its use.  I've witnessed alcohol and marijuana ruin so many lives.  Drugs are bad.  They are temporary solutions to permanent problems. I love beer and drink a few times each week. I imagine I would enjoy pot as well.  The bottom line is, these things are only okay for occasional use, other wise it becomes abuse. I can't worship any drug, and I feel bad for people who's lives have been overcome by them.

the question is too broad

however, I do have a chronic (heh) disease that can be treated with marijuana, so I do support it for at least medical use.

I think anything taken in excess can be hazardous to your health, whether it's food, alchohol, gaming, or even drugs (in this case, weed).

Also, I think citing certain research/science articles on the topic, whether you're supporting or against marijuana, would do well to support one's argument.

I'm a prude that doesn't even drink; I'm mostly agains drug use, but I don't judge people that like drinking in special occasions or smoking pot occasionally with friends. I won't do either of those, but if someone does it's pretty normal and not something I think should be frowned upon. Just please drink and smoke in moderation or you'll shit on your life.

If the question is one of legalizing it, then I'd definitely say yes. prohibition is unhelpful and just fucks people over even if they're being moderate about drug use.

EDIT: But if you smoke a cig in my house I swear I'll shank you.

No laws will stop people using drugs, just legalize weed and tax it to shit. Same laws as alcohol, but harsher penalties for those that buy it to give to minors e.g. teh kids pestering older people outside the shops to go in and buy them their alcohol from the shops near where i live, parents that think buying their kids alcohol etc makes them their kids friend.

plus im basically hiki so finding a dealer is impossible i want mail order weed ;_______;

I only support it when it's not abused (like 99% of people do abuse it) and I was really hoping for NO drug-related threads or posts on this forum, welp, fuck.

It's our right to want it as it is for you to not want it :< Just ignore otherwise.

Yeah I know it's your right and I respect that. But it was just my opinion/view. 😛

I've had my fair share of experiences smoking weed, and from what I've experienced it's completely harmless unless you abuse it or suffer from some psychological issues. It does not make you dumber unless you perhaps use it every day (as studies have showed it inhibits your learning and hinders your short-term memory). I know severeal highly intellectual programmers and physisits that smoke on a fairly regular basis and have not shown any negative signs at all. It shouldn't be illegal, if your not into then simply don't smoke it. Prohibition has historically never worked and I highly doubt that it will work any time soon. #420BlazeIt and all that.

I prefer weed over alcohol at the very least. It always seemed far more pleasant than most other drugs.

I'm all for the use of marijuana. It's my most used drug and the one I had the least amount of problems with.

The immediate effects of taking marijuana include rapid heart beat, disorientation, lack of physical coordination, often followed by depression or sleepiness. Some users suffer panic attacks or anxiety.

But the problem does not end there. According to scientific studies, the active ingredient in cannabis, THC, remains in the body for weeks or longer.

Marijuana smoke contains 50% to 70% more cancer-causing substances than tobacco smoke. One major research study reported that a single cannabis joint could cause as much damage to the lungs as up to five regular cigarettes smoked one after another. Long-time joint smokers often suffer from bronchitis, an inflammation of the respiratory tract.

The drug can affect more than your physical health. Studies in Australia in 2008 linked years of heavy marijuana use to brain abnormalities. This is backed up by earlier research on the long-term effects of marijuana, which indicate changes in the brain similar to those caused by long-term abuse of other major drugs. And a number of studies have shown a connection between continued marijuana use and psychosis.

....

Because a tolerance builds up, marijuana can lead users to consume stronger drugs to achieve the same high. When the effects start to wear off, the person may turn to more potent drugs to rid himself of the unwanted conditions that caused him to take marijuana in the first place. Marijuana itself does not lead the person to the other drugs; people take drugs to get rid of unwanted situations or feelings. The drug (marijuana) masks the problem for a time (while the user is high). When the “high” fades, the problem, unwanted condition or situation returns more intensely than before. The user may then turn to stronger drugs since marijuana no longer “works.”

The vast majority of cocaine users (99.9%) began by first using a “gateway drug” like marijuana, cigarettes or alcohol. Of course, not everyone who smokes marijuana and hashish goes on to use harder drugs. Some never do. Others quit using marijuana altogether. But some do turn to harder drugs. One study found that youth (12 to 17 years old) who use marijuana are 85 times more likely to use cocaine than kids who do not use pot, and that 60% of the kids who smoke pot before the age of 15 move on to cocaine.

....

Marijuana also affects brain development. When marijuana users begin using as teenagers, the drug may reduce thinking, memory, and learning functions and affect how the brain builds connections between the areas necessary for these functions.

Marijuana’s effects on these abilities may last a long time or even be permanent.

For example, a study showed that people who started smoking marijuana heavily in their teens and had an ongoing cannabis use disorder lost an average of eight IQ points between ages 13 and 38. The lost mental abilities did not fully return in those who quit marijuana as adults. Those who started smoking marijuana as adults did not show notable IQ declines (Meier, 2012).

....

No scientific evidence indicates that marijuana improves hearing, eyesight, and skin sensitivity.

Marijuana use increases the heart rate as much as 50 percent, depending on the amount of THC.

It can cause chest pain in people who have a poor blood supply to the heart - and it produces these effects more rapidly than tobacco smoke does.

Scientists believe that marijuana can be especially harmful to the lungs because users often inhale the unfiltered smoke deeply and hold it in their lungs as long as possible. Therefore, the smoke is in contact with lung tissues for long periods of time, which irritates the lungs and damages the way they work.

Marijuana smoke contains some of the same ingredients in tobacco smoke that can cause emphysema and cancer. In addition, many marijuana users also smoke cigarettes; the combined effects of smoking these two substances creates an increased health risk.

....

Marijuana use and addiction are most pronounced in America’s young people. Of those going to rehabilitation for Weed Addiction, 45 percent are under 21 years of age. When those 24 and younger are included, the percentage rises to 55. Thus it is important to let our youth know the risks, rather than letting them accept the decriminalization campaigns without rebuttal.

...

Dangers in the immediate effects of marijuana include distortions of time and space perceptions and impaired coordination, all of which may be contributing to the increased risk of traffic accidents recently discovered.

Particularly important for students to know about is the creation of difficulty thinking or problem solving and impairment of memory and learning. These difficulties can last for as long as four weeks after drug use.

Chronic marijuana use and higher dosages are found to correlate to greater incidence of psychosis and schizophrenia. This point is particularly significant due to the increases in drug potency over the last two decades. While the average potency has risen from 3% THC (tetrahydrocannabinol - the intoxicating ingredient in marijuana) a couple of decades ago to 9% now, there are some samples of weed that measure as high as 25%. These premium strains are normally grown hydroponically, are often smuggled in from Canada and demand a higher price than commercial-grade marijuana from Mexico.

Heavy abusers of marijuana were found to suffer damage to social life, work or career status and cognitive ability. Schoolwork and the achievement of goals were also found to suffer.

But proponents of legalization, decriminalization or medicalization of marijuana do not make this clear to America’s young people so they can make informed choices. By ranking marijuana in with medical treatments, the clear implication is that the drug is harmless.

If you wish to write poetry
as witty as I
you might need a bit of weed
to redden your eye
and if you wish
to be creative and clever
you need to 420 blaze it
forever and ever

(Actually, 99.9% of shit made by stoners can only be enjoyed by stoners. Everything in moderation.)

Not everyone is responsible with drugs. Drunk driving gives alcohol a bad name, but we don't make alcohol illegal because of it.

There will always be people who smoke weed all day and don't accomplish anything, doesn't mean we shoult take it away from those who are responsible.

Plus marijuana is less harmful to your body than say alcohol or nicotine.

In my state it's on the ballot this November. I support medicinal but frown on recreational. I would vote yes this year on the issue 3 but Responsible Ohio is a fucking joke. People don't realize it gives companies a monopoly and you can only grow a limited number of plants and need a permit on top of that and you can't even sell it and it can't leave your home if grown there. So I'm voting no this year.

always had a bad experience w/ it bc of my illness

anyway I think it should be legalized yup ok

I am strongly against banning things that are not proven to have a moderately serious negative impact in a person's daily life.
