What do you see in Akame ga Kill? (The Anime)

It looked like generic shounen garbage to me, but I never actually watched it myself. I'm assuming it's popular because it's easy for kids who want to feel edgy to like.

I watched the first episode and formed the same opinion of it.  I did not proceed to the second episode.

I didn't really care much for the plot, but I did enjoy that minus the main character, there was a chance that anyone from the main cast could be killed off.

Other than that, lots of edginess.

Akame ga Kill is one of those anime you can't really brand to one type.
As the manga hasn't finished by the time anime came out, the story of it differs quite a bit, and since the creators wanted to get it finished - they killed the characters off, one after another, until two were left. That also resulted in rushed development of the characters - they weren't deep enough to stand their ground, yet some of the relationships between them, such as Mine's final motif, were well met with the viewers.
Pretty much it's an original - not too good, not too bad, but really depressing if you were attached.

I watched the first half of episode 1 and thought.... this is some generic adventure anime like "Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?" It looked like I wouldn't be going much past this first episode. Then it got to the end of episode 1 and everything got super dark. It went from super lighthearted and campy to super graphic shit that you'd hear about from the deep web (underground torture pits.)  I was obviously new to the characters who ended up as victims, but I was endeared to them enough to be sad when I heard about what they went though. Again, the anime never hinted to what was happenning the entire episode. It made you believe things would unfold quite differently.  From that point, it was just a super fun show, that still maintained that element of tension, because you didn't know if your favorite characters would live or die.

Edgy with wacky scenes for the purpose that the viewers can be attached to the characters, then they kill the characters for a cheap shock value. It remind me of the Toaru index/railgun animes . I saw the first episode and predicted the whole anime, I didn't bother to watch the rest, is just garbage .
I don't like animes where there is not character development, I don't mind the violence BUT I like to follow characters that can grow to be interesting so that's why I loathe shounen animes and shounen mangas. One of the worst examples is Ichigo Kurosaki from Bleach, it can happen everything in 100+ episodes but he will be the same boring character.

I found out that the show air in Adult Swim's Toonami block. IT WILL BE A COLD DAY IN HELL WHEN THEY SHOW A WOMAN'S NIPPLE THERE. Hardcore violence is ok BUT sexuality is not? GIMME A BREAK

Esdeath. That's what I loved about the show.

To this day I have trouble convincing people that Ichigo is a straight played Gary Stu.

He lost something big, gets along with everyone, comes from a troubled background, has ancient power within him which incidentally gives him all the powers which normally shouldn't happen ( Quincy/Shinigami/Hollow/More Bullshit ).

Bleach is quite possibly worse, actually.

Ichigo is Tite Kubo inserted in his manga, he can do everything, all revolves around him, all characters praise him, all enemies see him as a threat, etc. Is truth, Ichigo is a straight played Gary Stu.
When One Piece of shit  comes to an end, that day Shounen Jump will die because Bleach is garbage and dont have the power to bring readers.

Though you're right Bleach doesn't sell that much in Japan. It's only part of the Big 3 here in America.

My Hero Academia... the mangaka must be happy that he crossed the line of the 5 tankoubon, your comment caused curiosity in me so I read the first chapter and based in that let me tell you what is going to happen

The protagonist and his friends become heroes, then there is a stupid tournament (all crap shounen mangas need one).
An evil force makes its appearance
opponents of the hero and his friends defeat the evil force
1-If the manga is still has popularity:
some good aliens appear asking for help from the human heroes and they have adventures on the planet Verga X.
2-If the manga decays in popularity:
some evil aliens appear which they are the ones that gave powers to the humans because they like to find good opponents to fight (or other stupid reason)
The hero, his friends and rivals unite and defeat the aliens
Everything on earth is back to normal (end)
If the mangaka wants that the readers remember his manga he kills the hero heroically.

Screencap this post and remember how predictable are shounen mangas. The old readers see this and don't want to buy more recycled stories anymore.

I read the manga and watched the anime for Esdeath, but I ended up liking Akame the most.
Manga is a little less shit than the anime though. I don't know how anyone can say positive things about it.
