Oh great, not these tragedies again, this time in El Paso and Dayton. Adding the insult to injury, Mexico now gets involved in the investigation because six of their nationals were included in the victim count. Total possible dead people are already well over 70.
El Paso in question is the epicenter of Trump's first major move against immigration there, which could be related to his latest tirades.

I now know exactly where all these past major global incitements come from including a recent hate-filled manifesto, 8chan. It is bound to shut down because its provider refuses to give any more support to keep it running because of this. I even was there once briefly as a casual anon user when I was trying out various forums years ago long before I came here.

The articles are from CNN, you can find it here:

Black smoke and rain covered part of the country because the president decided to burn as much forest as inhumanly possible really fast and now he's trying to censor anything relating to LGBT on tv and allowing the police to kill anybody they please, it doesn't help the brains behind him is some wannabe warlock who believes there a new world worder trying to implant communism on global scale, there's a gay dictatorship, pepsi uses cells of aborted fetuses in their beverage, evolution is wrong and once he pointed a gun to his child daughter's head and threatened to kill her for no reason, all due to a desire to defeat communism and save christianity, I never thought we could sink THIS low before.

Let me guess, Brazil? >_<'

toilet of south america, only venezuela is worse, now the forest fire can be seen from space

I have a bad feeling the military is already becoming high alert over some crazy small group's "Go to Area 51 and storm the place prank" meme come late September. Being a restricted zone and the talking point of conspiracies, they would no doubt make all potential curious trespassers either leave, caught, or worse.

I genuinely wonder why Brazil is allowed to lay claim to the Amazon. I'm usually never for foreign intervention, but in this case something really has to be done.

Didn't even know about this until I saw this post. Even then, my brain is so numb to these that I can't even react properly. Fuck.

Right? It's like someone's playing the long game and trying to get us desensitized to violence. We already sweep the poor and crippled under the rug; what's a number on a weekly news article?

I personally enjoy The Onion's take on mass shootings, which is to recycle the same headline over and over again. I really wonder what's the cause of so much violence. Medical journals and scholars and such point to similar characteristics between mass shooters (lonely, suicidal males with emotional problems potentially stemming from financial or relationship issues) and other various risk factors, but my question is what about our society allows so many people to feel marginalized to the point that they try something like this.

The world has been fucked we all just forget about things that are happening because that's what were taught to do.

Our unelected government will be suspending Parliament to prevent elected MPs from messing with the no-deal brexit process.

It really feels like I've been watching the UK fall apart in real time these past few months. Hope things work out alright over there.

I just hope things stay ok until I have the means to move out >_>

I'm already desensitized to it and, despite how horrible this is, it's basically meme material at this point. The US is basically one big dumpster fire.

I consider myself pretty open-minded in terms of politics but i don't really like left-winged parties.. at least in southamerica they won't ever work...

Anyone else gotten tired of the epidemic of "copaganda" on Reddit? Literally every time there's a viral shooting or other instance of police brutality, there's a slew of posts humanizing the police all over r/pics and Imgur.

This stuff's so obviously astroturfed, too. I've seen instances of the entire comment section tearing the guy down, but the post itself having multiple 10k likes.

-snip-

I've started to avoid threads/subreddits about american politics in general. Too much bickering and one-upping/owning the other party and to little discussion about actual policy concepts that could make a difference. People view politics like a sport where you cheer for your own team for entertainment instead of seeing it as the means to improve our lives.

Honestly, r/pics is kind of a garbage sub anyway. Pretty sure the mods there had an issue with Hong Kong or something a few weeks ago.

Yeah, I remember that. It was a picture of the aftermath of Tienanmen that r/pics mods deleted and deleted every individual comment.

I'm not completely sure that it was an act of PRC astroturfing but I know Tencent has recently been investing big money into Reddit so I wouldn't be surprised at all if there was some skullduggery going on behind the scenes. One thing that's really concerned me in recent years is the level of kowtowing to Beijing that corporations and institutions have been doing. Mostly in Hollywood but also with some of these larger social media companies. China is a country that I really don't want spreading its influence around. Right now it's Hong Kong in the process of being assimilated; who knows where it could be in the future.

About a week ago here in Japan most major convenience stores have stopped stocking adult magazines and even non-nude gravure idols. I had a hunch and ended up confirming it today.

This might not seem like that big of a deal. I don't buy adult magazines there anyway. In any case, it's something of a dying medium in the first place. Most people our age get our stuff digitally in the first place, right? Japan is no different and its digital adult industry certainly has customers.

But the tone this sets really disturbs me. There seems to be some pressure from various feminist groups and preparation for the 2020 Olympics. I really dislike this because one of the things that I like so much about Japan is that it doesn't have this poisonous attitude that sex is something shameful and hateful about society. And I think that magazines in convenience stores are one small way that that is expressed. From being comfortable with one's own naked body and those of others in bath houses and onsens to the presence of erotic imagery in convenience stores, I think that an upfrontness and openness toward sexuality and the power of sensuality as something healing and comforting as opposed to something corrupting is a cornerstone of Japanese society at its best.

I wish people would just have argued to put BL magazines to even things out if gender equality is such a problem. They do that at manga stores... an equality paradise if ever there was one! I hope it's just an Olympics precaution so that there's a possibility this can be undone without massive cultural upheaval.

Really sucks man. I loved seeing cute and sexy girls when I went to grab some snacks or utilities. I'm going to be bummed out all week 🙁

Here's hoping! Anime and manga are an integral part of human culture by now. I'd prefer if things just stayed the course.
