Well not same kind of story but recommendation. Mushishi has same kind of pacing, using the episodic format, don't know if you've seen it earlier.
Bartender is another one, both MCs are bartender (like this really matter, idk), both animes deal with peoples feelings, psychology and morality.
Bartender is also in episodic format.

But in nutshell, i recommend you to try Bartender and Mushishi

I second Mushishi. Just get past three episodes and you'll find peace in every episode. I haven't seen Bartender but it does seem quite a lot like Mushishi.

Also, try Casshern Sins.
If you have no problems with J-dramas, watch Liar Game. The manga is better than the drama, so you might want to read it. Although people tend to watch dramas because its audio/video xD.
Not a lot similar, but try Ergo Proxy and Danganronpa.
I have never liked Danganronpa anime but there's a lot of people that do, so give it a try.
