"Anime"

Alright seeing the rules state a picked topic can be broad. How about are "opinion" on the state of animation industry in both inside Japan. Feel free to join in and give out your opinions and please follow the board on being serious. *If not, may a mod feel free to move this to the correct board.

In my opinion, I can guess that the industry is being quite bland when it comes to series' genres. From looking at a season's series listing from AniList/Chart or any anime information distributor, usually you would be seeing the big ones.

  • Harem   *w/ Ecchi following this like inseparable brothers which rarely comes apart or Comedy.

  • Comedy *w/ a custom gender locked roles genre (Shoujo/Seinen?) or School Life following it. (Note: Usually series that have a higher role of a said gender as main characters or is more prioritized then another like Yuru Yuri are usually thrown into this genre.

  • Gundam or Mecha or something relating w/ Action

Sadly in most cases, I am just seriously nit-picking through anime series and when I cannot find anything good, I just switch through western shows or EVEN read a book.  Anyone else feeling that asphyxia when it comes to finding a good anime series.

Anime and work ethic has made it so no one in Japan wants to get married. No one getting married means no kids which means an aging population which is a serious problem.

To be honest I doubt how much of an impact anime had on that.

I don't understand how you got to that conclusion...

My simple opinion on the industry is that some seasons are shit while others are too great for their own good. If it's a bad season then I just go to my backlog.

It may have not caused much of an impact but I believe it subconsciously helps somewhow. At least it's worth a try since Japan is in serious problems, it's population is in decline.

I don't either.

Sadly asking why fanservice is needed in series. I mean we got Hentai for that. No offense....

I think chromes right in this one. FanService isn't particularly needed anyway if you consider that most Hentai does enough of that.
I'll tell you if theres one Type of Anime i don't watch its Ecchi and Fan Service because most are just well plain old, plain old.
By that i mean from all the shows ive seen from those genre they all include the artificial StereoTypes, The shy one with large
breasts, the happy and REALLY pretty one, the Tsundere, the boy in the harem who's just there to give out some "sense"
of a plot (Which there isn't and if there is its mainly boobs hence kill la kill)-
Etc. Etc.

The thing is, the companies need to make money too. To make one anime episode costs arund 10 million yen, and the only way to get that money back is from sponsor deals, merch and dvds. The companies themself only get a small cut from merch, and they can't run an anime purely on sponsor deals, so they kinda need to hope for the dvds to settle the rest, and that's very the Ecchi comes in. Ecchi is pretty much the safe thing to go for in japan, because it gets attetion, and attention means sales.

Well, what's worth watching and what's not also differs from person to person, so to generalize the whole season as shit is already a false statement in itself.

A bit disappointed with the anime industry because there isn't no "creative" series (mainly harems) that I can say is actually good. (*Note: I do know there are some, but they are like one of the shining stars you see in a vast sky )

Every series I wa tch is pretty much the same archtype and blueprints. Girls like main protagonist. Main protagonist is either a big pussy, afraid of girls, or just has no balls to get one of the female characters. (*well not in the case of School Days seeing Makoto is a retarded narcissistic fuckwad.)
Continuing with the fact that they must do something special or complete a task or just be comedic in nature.

This is pretty much a repeat in many series from Highschool DXD and other harem series and whatnot. Nothing different, nothing interesting, just a complete repeat of any other cringeworthy harem series.

Well as >>27763 Said, it does cost money and for a really good anime series
to be released it would need around 20-30 million yen per episode. Good shows
that actually show around the plot and stuff costs way more than it should because

in order for the quality to be nice that'll mean they'll have to pay even more.

But you are right. All the Harem shows and other Ecchi are literally the same
hence why i dont watch them.

You should watch " I Can't Understand What My Husband Is Saying" and "Ore Monogatari", two recent examples of shows that encourage both marriage/ having kids, and dating thats not in a harem. I'm sure there are more examples but I am lazy and won't look them up, but needless to say anime is not a root cause of Japan's population problems.

The fact the quite a lot people here in the west don't like Ecchi/Harem won't change the fact that there will always be a lot of them. Most Japanese companies don't care all that much about the opinion of us, they only care about the sales the make off of japanese people. If they anime doesn't sell within japan than it doesn't matter how much it was liked outside of it. Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood for example was liked quite a bit here in the west, while it was pretty much deemed a failure in japan. Japanese and western taste are quite different, and the companies will always go for what fits the japanese taste, because for them, that's the one that matters.

Here's something that's been on my mind: When a work of entertainment is considered for export and possibly dubbing, the studio has to consider whether it'd be worth it in the first place. You may witness this in all the lesser centers of cinema, ranging from Bombay, to Beijing, to Johannesburg; as well as with countless novels penned throughout every nation. With the aforementioned forms of media, there appears to be a loose correlation between the quality of the work, and the exposure it gets outside of its native market. Practically, an international border may be likened to a filter which allows only the finest of productions to pass through to its interior.

Returning to the matter at hand: Owing to its explosive rise in popularity within the past two decades, anime seems to have become a special case. Obviously the studios involved exercise some measure of discretion (so long as it's profitable), but I'm kinda curious as to just how many shows aren't even considered for export or localization; how many shows are either so niche or so unbelievably appalling that they didn't even bother. You guys seem a lot more well-versed in current events, so I thought I'd ask.
