That doesn't suddenly make it not a lie , that wasnt an estimate, you explicitly stated that you were going to release it. I'm not the one things aren't getting through to.

It makes it a broken promise, not a lie.
A lie would be an intentionally false statement and except if you want to say Senpai was planning this all along, isn't applicable in this situation.

since you want to continue it, i'll put together a couple of imaginary scenarios for you.

you are heading to work, you've told your boss that you'll be in by 9am
you're held up in traffic and are thus running a little late

so you lied to your boss?

or

>you're working on a project for a customer, you tell them you think it'll take you three days
>on the third day you realise there's quite a lot you haven't taken into consideration, you tell the customer that it might take a bit longer than expected

would you have lied to your customer? or would it have been an estimation error?

a lie is not where you've said you'd do something and been unable to do it, a lie is when you've said something deliberately untrue.

A broken promise then. It doesn't make a difference because we get what the other person is saying.

First scenario: you broke the promise and you'll have to apologise before your boss. If you do this too often you should prepare to get fired or something.

Second scenario: you don't tell them you think it'll take 3 days, you tell them "it'll be done in 3 days" instead. You tell them it'll take a bit longer, and then you do it again, and then you do it again. A month has passed by now. Damn right your customer is going to be at least a little bit tipped off at that point. Because that's a pretty big estimation error at that point.

Anyway, it doesn't even matter anymore because the new theme is right around the corner, right?

And I'm sorry for getting those two things mixed up. Truth is that the theme has been "around the corner" for a looong while now.

And it's impossible for me to prove the difference between if that was a broken promise or if you were lying.

it's seemingly pretty obvious to everyone but you

what the fuuuck m80s

y'all niggaz need to calm down. I was just making a joke about valve time, I never meant to insinuate that senpai is lying to us

As a programmer, I know that things take longer than you expect all the time, often even by ten or twenty times. It's not malicious, it's just how things are, and it's nothing to get mad about. Senapi is not obliged to make a new theme for you at all, he does it in his own time, for fun.

I wouldn't call it a lie, but I would definitely say Senpai went back on his word of releasing the theme. Do I want the new theme as well? Yes. Was I really looking forward to it being released when Senpai said he'd have it out? Yes. Am I disappointed? Yes.

So Senpai, perhaps in the future don't give estimations for release, simply say you don't feel the theme is ready for release, and that you're continuing development on it. Stops people from getting their hopes up, because even though I am disappointed it didn't get released, you should at least understand that the disappointment comes from me enjoying the forum, and I see the theme as a step forward into the future of the forum. And I want to experience the forum evolving over time, and becoming something great.

i agree completely. i do hope to have it done soon, but i really shouldn't raise anyone's hopes by setting a release date.
