Trollhunter - 9/10
I'm a sucker for the found footage and magical realism genres in general, and this film was particularly well put-together.  I also can't help but respect horror films that manage to be unsettling without jump scares.

Pumpkinhead - 6/10
A good part of this was the standard "college kids go to a cabin in the woods" horror movie shtick, but it did have enough variety to it to keep it at least somewhat interesting.

Primer - 9/10
I really liked the model of time travel presented in this movie—I'd not seen anything like it beforehand.  My only significant complaint was about the complexity of the plot progression; I had to pore over a fan-made timeline chart before it all fit together.  Not that I dislike complexity in movies, but still.

The Evil Dead - 4/10
That "college kids trapped in cabin in woods" trope was pretty much the whole premise of this film, and the laughably cheesy special effects didn't do much to add to it.

I like this thread! Damn shame I don't watch many movies.

As a sidenote, you might wanna consider posting this in the public section. Most people don't even know about the Cinema group 'cuz it's like, super-ded.

Atlantis: The Lost Empire - 7/10
Movies like this make me miss when Disney used to do traditional 2D animation. It doesn't really have too many mature themes, but the action's good, and the setting's very unconventional for a Disney flick.

Oh, you think so?  I thought it might help to make a new thread here, but it seems like the "Movies & TV" section will probably keep getting most of the traffic regardless.

Also, I almost said, "Isn't it bad to make duplicate threads?", but then I saw that there were already "favorite movie" threads posted in both places, so I guess it'll be OK.  =P

Videodrome - 7/10
I'm not too big on some of the more graphic content in this one.  Still, it does an excellent job of showcasing hallucinations and the breakdown of perceptual reality.

2001: A space Odyssey

7.5/10
Some people think that might a low score because it's a Kubrick classic.
But some scenes were drawn out and boring, I know this is because it's an artsy film but personally I didn't like that. There were like 10 minutes of just some colours moving.

Collateral - 6.5/10
Look, I'm not going to pretend like this film is a masterpiece or anything, but it is one DAMN fine thriller and is more than worth your time. Jaime Foxx and Jada Pinkett Smith are both pretty incredible in this, with Foxx really bringing home the feelings of nervousness and panic that his character, Max, must feel being thrust into a sitaution like this. Michael Mann brings beautiful choreography to the table as well as some pretty exquisite directing. The man's a master of his craft when it comes to action films, and this is no exception. That being said, I can't let this movie off the hook for a few things. For one, there are a few scenes that just feel unnecessary or cheesy, mostly in the second half, and sometimes the dialogue is just a bit too witty for its own good. There are also a pretty, well, dumb lines. At the final big line that was essentially the payoff for the whole movie, I was cackling so hard that I had tears in my eyes, and I'm pretty damn sure that was NOT the intention. While all of that detracts, and the film itself isn't necessarily trying to push any boundaries, I still found it to be a terrific, gritty rollercoaster through the seedy underbelly of Los Angeles that kept me gripped right up to the final credits. If you've got the time, check it out. It goes by very quickly.

(Personal grading scale note: 1 - Abysmal, 2 - Terrible, 3 - Bad, 4 - Meh, 5 - Mediocre, 6 - Decent, 7 - Great, 8 - Incredible, 9 - Godlike, 10 - Masterpiece, I rarely give anything above an 8.)
