Tried to overclock my CPU. There are many regrets. The fact my rig is unstable at full stock settings is beginning to be slightly unnerving and quite worrying.

Unless you pushed the voltage higher than you should have, I don't think it's really the fault of the overclock.

Nope. I figured it out. So when I made a new profile for the overclock, it ended up changing the voltage settings for my memory. So it wasn't getting the voltage it needed and would cause a fuckton of crashes. I've set it back to what it's supposed to be at and it's running fine, knock on wood, right now. Gonna keep an eye on it, but if no more issues show themselves I might try overclocking again to see if I can get it higher now that I've isolated the problem.

Yeah, generally, unless something gets super hot, or you push too much voltage, lasting damage won't occur (except data loss from crashes).

I might try doing mine at some point as well, since I haven't OC'd mine after getting a new PSU.

Yeah a couple months back I upgraded my PSU and thats why I'm kinda wanting to try it.

I'm still here! I've just been getting acclimatized to life in Japan.

Hoping I can find stable enough employment to get more permanent residence after these two years.

I'm tempted to try putting a peltier cooler in between the naked die and aio cooler. No idea how practical that would be, but it'd be fun to try.

Never heard of em, I'm just using the stock cooler.

So (hopefully) final update. I've got it OC to 3.7GHz. It survived Prime95 for an hour and yeah I know that is a pretty short window of time. I'm going to use my computer now as I typically would and fingers crossed no crashes.

We are one thread away from reaching 5k. I wonder if something will happen when the goal is reached, or if the counter will only refresh to a higher number, or maybe halt on the 5k

They're pretty nifty. They're these thin square things. You put some DC through them, on one side they get super cold, on the other they get super hot. And they chew through a lot of power http://www.hebeiltd.com.cn/peltier.datasheet/TEC1-12710.pdf

What CPU and motherboard do you have?

Huh. And those are pretty efficient coolers?

I'm rocking a Ryzen 5 1600 with a GA-AB350-Gaming 3. I won't lie I had a mini-heart attack when my rig BSOD earlier. But, I noticed it's one that happens all the time when a random bugcheck occurs and theres a game with an anti-cheat open it'll sometimes fail and crash the system.

Efficient? Oh god no. As far as I can tell, the one I have can pull >100W, so I hope I have enough headroom.

Is overclocking ok on the B350? As far as I know, it's somewhat limited. And yeah, Ryzen doesn't tend to overclock very well, so it'll be interesting to see how far you get.

A kernel-mode anti-cheat? Eugh... I have a game that comes with kernel-mode DRM, which of course doesn't work on anything above Windows XP.

Yeah overclocking seems to be okay with the B350. They have a manual you can reference for the different settings and what not, and later BIOS updates have added more options and more control. 3.7GHz @ 1.3v is probably all I'm gonna push. I messed with 3.8GHz @ 1.33v and a bit higher and it crashed every time. 3.7/3.8 seems to be what most people get, some who won the silicone lottery have pushed 3.9/4.0.

I don't know. I think it's a Microsoft bugcheck of sorts and when it does it while a game is open with anti-cheat it'll try to read a memory address, but some technical mumbo jumbo causes it to be unable to resulting in a BSOD.

So now 15 days of being grounded for a month. I don't know if there is a female version of blue balls but it is a very lame feeling

May I ask, how does a grown woman get herself grounded~?

Come on man, that ain't cool. I know MOBAs are super-competitive (That's what happens when you design a game meant for professionals.), but all feeding, trolling, and does is ruin the experience of other people.

Me, I've never really gotten the appeal of competitive gaming; the Overwatch community in particular was so much nicer before Blizz started pushing hard on eSports to promote the game. On that note, Halo 3 just got a PC release. Why not check that out instead?

Same. Ordered some more shit from China and the period of delivery is 20-60 days.

I'm reading through Gantz and there's something incomparably sad about finding this old ad for a site that's no longer around

Apparently my area is expected to have two-hour shipping from Amazon soon, which as far as delivery time goes is pretty close to teleportation.
