Planned Updates

This thread is here to list any planned updates that I have in store for the community.

If you see something here, you don't need to suggest it.

Basically, the next few things will be coming in a bundle:

• A new theme.

• New hosting

• A psuedo CDN; it'd be all our static files (CSS, JS, images, etc) hosted on another server running nginx with the pagespeed module.

• Our forum software will likely be updated.

There's one way I'm considering doing the CDN, but it completely relies on the response I get from the owner of an existing service when I ask how much he/she'd sell it for.

I do of course have plans in place for when/if I can't work out a decent deal with them.
Their service was actually an afterthought.

• Slack Integration

  • Automatic invites

  • Linking accounts

  • Alerts/Announcements

• Imageboard

• ezpz image hosting

Maybe:

• Profile icons.

Cool. I honestly find no use for these "profile icons". I think awards are the way to go. But if you implement them, I just simply won't use them. Other people will. Also about that private Waifu lounge and chat...

The profile icons are meant to be something extra users can spend seks on, I also agree that they're somewhat pointless; but I haven't heard much more in the way of suggestions

Alright, I'll go through the list and try to make things as simple as possible.

• A new theme.

I think this one explains itself pretty well, but essentially I've asked a couple of theme designers for quotes on a responsive theme (fits on all screen sizes using the same theme), that is flat (doesn't have a million gradients) and is using a dark colour scheme.

• New hosting

Currently we're using free paid hosting, meaning I was pretty much given access to a VPS (Essentially a linux virtual machine running on a dedicated server); but I'd like to purchase similar hosting, as I dislike relying on others.

• A psuedo CDN; it'd be all our static files (CSS, JS, images, etc) hosted on another server running nginx with the
  pagespeed module.

This one's a little trickier to explain; I guess it just means that all of the CSS, JS, images will be hosted separately on a server that's optimised for speed.

• Our forum software will likely be updated.

The main thing that's holding back the forum from getting updated to a newer version of MyBB is the theme, a lot of changes were made to 1.8 that mean the theme requires quite a lot of changes made to it.

I figured it'd be far easier to update the forum once we have a new theme.

This part's a secret, as I don't want to give any false hopes or have any embarrassment if the plan flops. You'll know about it if everything goes according to plan though.

Currently the whole Slack setup is pretty clunky; getting people to message me their email address is hardly ideal and is a step that should probably be removed completely.

There's also the downside of having the Slack, which is that everyone spends far too much time in the slack while the forum is vaguely active; I'm hoping that alerts and announcements will bring attention back to the forum.

The announcement for new introduction threads seems to work pretty well; it'll go off pretty much instantly though with the new system.

• Imageboard

There will of course be an imageboard integrated with Lewd eventually.

I'm currently thinking of the best way to do this.

• ezpz image hosting

Currently it's pretty clunky if you want to post an image on the forum; you have to first make sure the image is hosted elsewhere and then hope to god that they don't have hotlink protection.

The super secret planned update might coincide with this.

Maybe:

• Profile icons.

This was an idea that was suggested as a use for seks, you can see the idea in the suggestions category.

It'll be using the red that you occasionally see on this theme.
