Mandatory distro question

Posts

So what's up guys, linux lover here (also learner though).

So what distros do you use like? whats do you use for servers?

I've tried most of the popular desktop environments and distros but I like ubuntu with xfce, i like it's simplicity and at the same time depth of customization. As you can imagine i like ubuntu for servers, i've never needed anything else but learning a more serious distro like centos is definitely on my to do list.

Running Centos on the forum server. I have to say its really reliable.

I really like the CentOS, Tails, and Kali. that's about all I can think of from the top of my head.

Honestly, (and sadly I suppose), the only time I use a certain Linux distro is when I need to penetrate my neighbor's wi-fi. Yes, I'm a cheap-o like that, haha. Just kidding 😃.

I use Linux back when I was in college (since it's required) and of all the distros I've used, Ubuntu is the closest to Windows. And since it's the closest, it's really not that hard to use it. But then I always struggle with compatibility issues since most of the applications I use are Windows-based.

Linux Mint - User friendly for the most part, and a solid distro for newcomers.
Antegros - When ya just can't be fucked going through the archlinux install
Archlinux - When ya can be fucked going through the archlinux install
Debian - Stability
Elementaryos - When you wanna look like a macfag but be like a linuxfag.

I rate CentOS and Debian, they're both pretty fantastic for servers.

I like Ubuntu for Desktops though, I fall in love with it over and over again!

ArchLinux. I can keep it as minimal as I want (I'm not running a desktop manager, just Openbox as my window manager).

I also like debian sid, and #! was the shit (bunsenlabs is it's successor and it's pretty cool too). For servers I like debian, though centos looks pretty stable.

#! was legit. not even gonna lie

I use Ubuntu 15.04 for my server, but I am thinking of switching to Centos 6 in a couple weeks.

Using Arch with a MATE UI here. It's a process to setup, but I like it.

I would have to say the best just because of pure flexibility is arch linux and ive used it the longest. It seems hard to set up but really is not.

Always, ALWAYS. Use Ubuntu. Don't question it, Ubuntu is life.

Ubuntu is the most friendly distro imo, it should work fine for people trying their first linux.

Red Hat was my first :^)

Friendly != good. Friendly = bloatware, spyware, and slow runtime.

Well no shit you're going to have compatibility issues. You're running software that's objectively not supposed to be ran. It doesn't matter if you're on Ubuntu 14.04, 16.04, or fucking LTS Arch, you're going to have a bad time running Win32 apps. Period the end.

Also no one gives two fucking shits about you "penetrating" your neighbor's wifi with air-crack.

I have Slackware on my desktop and servers unless I have serious reason to use a different distro

when I can be assed using linux, i use debian or bunsenlabs

Linux Mint 18 Cinnamon for desktop, servers are running a few things from arch, debian to CENTos

Desktop: Typically Mint, maybe Manjaro
Server: Ubuntu 14.04

what are the best linux distros for creating a server for windows users? wanna read your opinions :3
