This is a post from my blog Karma.moe - give it some love: www.karma.moe/2016/12/your-name-will-not-be-getting-golden.html

The nominees for the 74th Golden Globes have been announced, and for the Best Motion Picture - Animated movies; no anime, not even the famed Kimi no Na wa was selected. The movies chosen are all generic western releases; many of which like Sing have very little substance and support - especially compared to Makoto Shinkai's masterpiece.

This is not for those fans of Shinkai to fret - the Golden Globes would have been nice, but the Oscars were the real prize they were looking for. Three anime have been submitted this year to win those - these include Final Fantasy XV: Kingsglaive, Miss Hokusai and Kimi no Na wa. With most people in support of the latter; the movie has surpassed Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone to become to 4th highest grossing movie in Japan. More will be revealed in time....

I work with animators and let me tell you that the Golden Globe is based around how much the comiteé liked the movie or not.

Oscars are a little tougher since they rely on both quality (30%), proposal (40%) and gross sales (30%). The last 30% is why Disney wins at least 5 or 6 every decade.

I'm not one to say "anime is better than all other kinds of animation!!!!" because everyone is subject to their own opinion. That being said... Sing? Really?
