Mafia?

I'm curious to see if we can get a game going.

If you don't know what this is, here is a basic summary:

This, my friend, is the forum game known as Mafia, or Werewolf. At it's most basic level, it is a game of the Uninformed Majority versus the Informed Minority.

The basic idea of Mafia is that out of all the people playing, there's a small group of betrayers trying to bring everyone else down. The betrayers are the Mafia, sometimes called "scum" or other unpleasant names. Everyone else is in the Town, otherwise called "villagers" or "innocents" or so forth.
The Town's goal is to get rid of all the scum players. They do this by taking a majority vote each game Day for who they want to get rid of. The Mafia's goal is to outlast all of the Townies until they control the majority vote, at which time there's nothing the Town can do to stop the scum from completely taking over. They can do this by avoiding being voted out and killing players during the Night phases following each game Day. The crowd that starts the game gets whittled down until eventually only one faction remains in the game.
So strategically, the game comes down to Townies finding and voting out the Mafia as often as possible. The Mafia tries to avoid getting voted out and kill off the players who threaten them at Night.

The user can edit or soft delete their own posts. I might code a plugin that allows the OP to disable editing in a thread, but it'd be at least two days away (I'm away for the weekend, can't really code much).

The op needs to be able to edit his posts, nobody else in a game thread should be able to edit their posts, and (optionally) the thread op should be able to edit other's posts. Another thing you could do is insert a few custom tags that can be used :3

No, votes are public information. There are instances where someone might post privileged information in-thread by accident, but that's usually what we call a scum slip and not against the rules. I'll post a full list of game rules that I prefer to use for my games if we get enough support for this.

Is there any way we can get a

The spoilers available are more than enough for the purposes I need them for. I think I'm going to add a rule that no spoiler text may be marked hidden, however. And one other about not allowing forum guests to register.

Town of Salem is a variant of this game :3 But yes, if you've ever played Town of Salem you've probably got an ok level of background knowledge.

Looking to see what level of interest we have so I can decide what setup to run. Will almost definitely be an open setup the first few games until we get everyone that decides to participate at a decent level.

This is a list of rules that one should be familiar with before participating in any game that I run.

RULESET:

ONE: FUNDAMENTALS

1. All site-wide rules apply. Read and respect them. (See footer)

2. There is no personal communication outside the forum postings (regarding this game) unless your role specifically allows it.

3. Do not quote your Role PM or any private communication (either real or fabricated) with the moderator, co-moderator, backup-moderator, or fellow players. Paraphrasing your Role PM is acceptable.

4. Be courteous and respectful to all your fellow players and the moderating team.

5. Play to your Win Condition. 

TWO: DAY PHASE (DP)

1. Each Day Phase shall have a two week deadline. 

2. This game will be making use of Thesp's votecounter on an experimental basis. See the section below for more information.

3. Unvoting is not required, but is much appreciated by the mods.

4. Once you have reached a simple majority (half of all living players plus one) that person's fate is sealed and they shall be lynched. At that point, unvoting cannot change their fate.

5. If half the living players approve a No Lynch (Vote: No Lynch), then no player shall be lynched and the game shall enter Night Phase. If deadline is reached and no one has received a simple majority of the votes, no one shall be lynched.

6. Once a player is lynched the game enters twilight until I arrive and post a death scene. All players may continue to post during twilight.

7. If you have failed to post for over 48 hours, I will send you a prod. Failure to respond to this prod within 48 hours will result in the replacement of that player. Force-replacing of flakers/rule-breakers will be occur at my discretion. Generally, this will happen after three prods during a single day, or five total prods.

8. In rare situations (such as replacements), a brief deadline extension may be granted.

9. Votes and Unvotes shall not count in twilight.

THREE: VOTE COUNTS 

1. Use the official vote and unvote tags. For example, if you wanted to vote for Thesp, you would type [vote ]Thesp[ /vote] without the spaces. (It would appear as [vote]Thesp[/vote]).

2. Avoid abbreviations. Spell out the player's name that you are voting for.

3. Don't use the word "Vote" with a colon unless you are actually voting. Even better, use the vote tag!

4. Don't use the word "Unvote" in bold, unless you are actually unvoting.

5. Don't vote for multiple different people in the same post, please.

6. Don't vote for somebody inside of spoiler tags or code tags. They will be disregarded.

FOUR: NIGHT PHASE (NP)

1. Night Phase shall last two days. 

2. All groups with Quick Topics (QTs) will be able to converse during the Night Phase.

3. Any role or faction with night abilities may choose to use them by PM-ing the mod with their choice.

4. If no action is received, no action will be taken. All actions received after the deadline has passed will not be valid.

5. Night Action submissions will be accepted starting in the Twilight Phase.

FIVE: CAPITAL OFFENSES

1. Do not quote your Role PM or any private communication (either real or fabricated) with the moderator, co-moderator, or backup-moderator. Paraphrasing your Role PM is acceptable.

2. There is to be no personal communication outside the forum postings (regarding this game) unless your role specifically allows it.

3. The following is a list of outlawed shenanigans: 

   •  

   • Using invisible text, codes, cryptography, communicating outside of game thread, etc.
      

   • Editing your posts (if you have the power to do so).
      

   • Personal Attacks
      

   • Quoting any QTs you may have access to.

4. Purple is my mod color. Do not use this color.
   

5. If any of these offenses are committed, I have the right to force-replace you from the game or modkill you. A warning will usually come before replacement or modkilling, depending on the severity of the infraction.

SIX: MISCELLANEOUS

1. Feel free to address me in-thread, but if there is a large egregious mistake please PM me. Small matters like errors in the votecount can be posted in-thread.

2. This is a game. Have fun, and keep the game fun for other people. Stay civilized, please. 

3. I have the right to edit this RuleSet at any time.

Mafia Specific Rules

Breaking rules, not posting, or certain other behavior may result in a modkill or replacement in affected games; rules regarding this should be (and generally are) included up front by the Game Moderator. Some rules apply to most games, and should be assumed to hold unless the Game Moderator explicitly says otherwise. These are:

Do not attempt to play the same game under more than one name.
Do not bring outside influences into the game - this includes threats, bribes, wagers, promises, "trust tells", alliances, etc. Using knowledge from previous games is perfectly acceptable, but try not to carry grudges from one game to another.
Do not talk outside the game thread about an ongoing game except where explicitly allowed to do so by your role/moderator. Likewise, do not use bbcode to hide secret messages - this equates to discussion outside the thread. For more information on this, please see this post.
Do not edit/delete posts.
Do not quote communications with the moderator (in particular, your role PM). Paraphrasing is usually ok.
Do not post in the game after you are dead or replaced. Some moderators do allow contentless "Bah!" posts, but you should never reveal information once you are dead.
Play to win the game.

All disputes regarding an ongoing game should be taken to the moderator of the game by PM.
