I deleted all mangas from my MAL a couple of months back as I hadn't updated them in years and wanted a fresh start but now I deeply regret it... 🙁
Of course I still don't really keep track of all the things I'm watching/reading... I find it a hassle.

Anyway, here is my MAL: https://myanimelist.net/profile/Manuel (just realized that the account is already 10 years old... w-o-w.)

Lot's of people seem to be on kitsu.io. Is it better?

Thankya friend! I'm PixelDiver over on MAL, I'll add ya when I get home. ^^

I can't say I enjoy the fact that I've become so disconnected from the Anime community lately. There were a handful of amazing old nineties series I was following before I hurt myself, and ever since then I've lost interest in a lot of my old hobbies. Somehow, some way, I'd reckon it's high time to fix that.

I sent you a friend request! 🙂

I've had a three year break from watching and following anime during my undergraduate studies and only rediscoverd my fondness for it recently. A lot of the shows I watched back then don't do it for me at all anymore and I've become a lot pickier (some might say even a bit snobbish... ahem). Maybe you just haven't found the right series to tickle that "This is why I watch anime!"-itch again? Incidently I'm very fond of 90s anime now and if you have some series you would reccomend I would love to hear about them.

Hope you get back into your old hobbies! If it is something you enjoy, the interest should come back once you start doing it.

Pros:

  • The devs constantly add various feature
  • The mods actually listens to the users
  • It's open source
  • Better API, obviously better than MAL
  • They accept a lot of manga and anime entries that rejected in MAL
  • Better discussion with contextual per chapter/episode discussion
  • A lot of features are planned, from separate light novel database, better statistics, site embed on post, and more.
  • The community is self-maintained.
  • MyAnimeList auto-updater
  • there are a tons more, just go check it.

Cons:

  • After the merging with Aozora App and the introuction of official mobile app, the media age of the users suddenly drops and the global feed is filled with mainstream anime and cringe kids.
  • No forum.

Honestly the last two don't even phase me since I use it only for categorizing the anime I've watched, want to watch, and drop.

I wanna switch to Kitsu, but the export function doesn't work for me and the support team is worthless >_<

I kinda do my own ratings though. Some may seem odd without context. I basically just have five tiers.

  • The lowest is the irredeemable stuff, though I don't leave reviews for series I drop, so rarely do I ever watch something all the way through and then put it there.

  • The next highest is for shows I finished, still wouldn't recommend, but they at least had one or two good/interesting things that reduced the pain of watching.

  • Mid tier is selectively recommendable, as in I would recommend it for someone who basically wants a specific plot/cast/whatever and the show gives exactly that.

  • Above mid are shows I'd universally recommend, usually offering a unique experience that you didn't know you wanted

  • Highest tier is pure kino. (I like artsy junk, so it tends be things like Ping Pong The Animation or Tatami Galaxy.)

>tfw got the "Plot" achievement
>tfw it was undeserved

I tend to be generous with my grades, should probably grade after a rewatch or wait a bit after completion before grading but I would probably forget. Anyway, as a general rule do -1 to my grades and it should start looking objective.
