Slack has been stripped of all channels that could have a place on the forum, simply because Slack has leeched our activity considerably:

Instead of stuff being posted on the forum, everything gets posted to a Slack channel, which then gets lost after we reach their 10k message limit.

Slack should only be used for shitposting and general discussion, and the forum should be used for discussing things and sharing stuff. Not the other way around.

I know a few of you are probably going to be (or already are) annoyed with the change, but it had to be done.

Well I wouldn't say I approve completely, but I do think slack should die because it's not the proper place to make an archive of lewd pictures and stuff, considering each message that isn't in the 10k newest gets "hidden", including private messages, and that kinda pissed me off.

By hidden do you mean deleted or do they literally just get hidden?

You can only go back on old messages to a certain point, the rest are hidden.

Why do they hide them? Are they just sitting there taking up space never to be seen again or can you like pay to see it or something?

You have to pay to see it. And it's not cheap either, it's like $8 a month for every member you have or something, including inactive members.

We have 78 members there, so $624 a month is pretty unreasonable for us. c:

And to have unlimited messages it's a bit costly, and considering there's over 70 users it's really costly. You need at least the standard plan, which is a per user thingy, where you pay the amount they say per user per month, which means the more people you have in your community, the more it costs you, which is literally bullshit imo. Holy shit. I can not imagine they make many sales with prices that absurd.

The problem is, that Slack is not designed for communities, it's designed for a team environment.

True. It works good for communities even with the free plan though in my opinion. You don't really need to see posts that are that old I guess.

Even if you had, say a team on 10 people working on a project. That is still $80 a month for essentially a pretty chat service. Still a little out there.

Which is why it's a bad platform to use as an image archive place. If we wanted to use something similar as an image archive place, I'd have recommended using discord, which is basically a slack remake intended for gamers, with integrated voice chat, and no limits, the only priced things according to them will be extra visual features, which makes it definitely much better than slack, but they don't have an API yet, so we can't make bots and such for it. With that said though, since cornflake wishes to make slack nothing more than skype 2.0, it would be pretty stupid to offer skype 3.0 instead. xD

Ok how about this. If you want an archive of images, we can get a bot to scrape the different channels downloading all images and upload them to an archive somewhere. Or do they not provide the tools for stuff like that.

EDIT: https://api.slack.com/community looks like it will be possible.

You can probably do it but it's too late, senpai closed the channels and demi was dealing with making an archive here, dunno if he's still doing it or if he stopped. And Senpai's plan is to make us do that shit here instead.

If you like I could look into it. I need something to do.

Nah, with lewd.io coming soon, there's really no need for it. 🙂

Damn straight it is. :^)

Oh well. It would have been a fun project.

That's actually a pretty cool idea. Nice one.
