How does one become an anime/manga elitist?

Honestly, I often proclaims myself as elitist. Just because I don't want to be lumped together to those weebs.

So, what do you think about this?

And I'm a weird person.
I never drops anime. I watch/read and complete every anime and manga despite I completely hate them.

In all seriousness what the word "elitist" in the anime community brings to mind is someone who calls out others on some menial details such as whether they watch subs or dubs, whether they stream or torrent, what media player they use to watch and so on. I guess you could also define it as someone who's moved far past entry level and only indulges themselves with highly refined material. It is typically used to single out certain individuals for both good and bad reasons.

Elitist? If you like Anime that has actual quality, why settle for less? I don't think not eating trash off the ground makes me a food elitist...

Oh yeah! I'd totally forgotten about that sub. With good reason: I'd unsubscribed to it a long time back.

Yeah, I jumped ship right around when I realized most of the stories posted there were just depictions of incredibly socially-awkward young people who grew up with a shitty home life. I know someone like that; hell, I might've fit that mold myself at some point. Following that revelation, the stories would only induce sorrow; I couldn't bring myself to read them anymore.

Still, there were a few that I genuinely enjoyed, my favorite being the one where the weeb's dad made him work at a Chinese restaurant. After an initial struggle, our viewpoint character and the head chef broke him down and built him up under the guise of martial arts training. Think The Karate Kid, only with Kung-pow chicken and anime T-shirts.

By time the tale concluded, the weeb had been thoroughly humbled, and transformed into a functional member of modern society. As an added bonus, he'd even picked up a few basic cooking skills. Musing on it now, I can't help but feel a genuine smile spreading across my face.

Typically when I think of elitists it's typically in a shitty way. Elitist has always held a negative conotation to it. I expect any form of elitist to be a cunt, I typically stop caring about their opinion right away and even distance myself.

That being said not every elitist is a buttmunching, piece of shit that thinks they are holier than thou and everything they say is to be taken as fact. But, almost all elitsts I have come across (both anime, and non-anime related) have been asshats who don't know how to properly enjoy something without shoving their opinion down everyones throat every 5 seconds.

Having high standards for the anime you watch isn't a bad thing. It's not a bad thing to be picky with entertainment. But shitting on other people because they watch things you regard as bad or you don't like is just shitty behaviour. That's what an elitists is for me. (In a pejorative way)
