Nya.is is now under new ownership.

Hi friendos,

Nya.is is now owned by Josh - the founder of Kitsu/Hummingbird.

When I closed off uploads, he sent me an email expressing interest in keeping the service going; After some conversation with him, I felt that I could trust him with taking over the service as he seems to have similar values to my own; and have sold it to him.

What I concluded while talking to him:

  • He'll continue to respect users privacy.

  • He wants to make a service that everyone will continue to enjoy, without cluttering the site with advertisements.

  • He seems pretty okay.

The files and domains will be transferred to him within the next couple of days, and once that is done; I will no longer have any control of the site. It's sort of saddening to hand over my child; but it's definitely better than closing off the service; and it feels good to hand it over to someone as capable as Josh and I look forward to seeing where he takes it.

Glad to see it'll still be in the hands of someone capable, and motivated towards the service. Was really sad to hear it'd be shutting down, and even more sad when my back up was Imgur. Thanks for running the service for so long, and thank you Josh for taking over and keeping it going.

Down for more than 3 days yet.... This will be a lot of work to put files in another server... 🙁 Well, I feel I cannot do nothing to preserve this giant file server online, isn't?

I have spoken to Josh, and he has decided to close the service down after receiving reports of child pornography being uploaded to the service.

He spoke to his lawyers and they told him that he could be held accountable for it due to the unmoderated nature of Nya enabling the mis-use of the service.

I'm currently in the process of getting him to transfer the domain(s) back to me, so I can put up a notice.

Might be good (yet time consuming) to moderate pics before allowing them to be uploaded, like booru sites. Those uploading that garbage could probably do it again.
