Abyssal Fleet Event 3

Posts

Within moments, the impromptu commandos heard heavy thuds against the floor above them. As they raced across the tiny fort back to the dock, they were ambushed by two North American fleet girls at the far end of the corridor.
Tacoma-classes. Nimble frigates clad in cutesey pajamas. Their triple three-inch guns were practically peashooters against Goya's thick armor, but their depth charges posed a real threat to any sub. Especially one caught in a narrow hallway.
As the first shots rang out, everyone raced behind the nearest corner. Fortunately the corridor had a number of open doors with deep recesses, allowing both parties to take potshots at each other.

Charlotte: "Not so tough without your torps, are ya?"
Annapolis: "Suppresive fire, suppressive fire! Keep 'em pinned long as possible!"

Another round of shots without effect. By now a thin haze of concrete dust hung between them in the dimly-lit hallway.

Annapolis: "Char, keep 'em pinned! I've got a little somethin' for the small fry."
Charlotte: "You got it, sis. All Bofors, open fire!"

While her sister exposed her full complement of arm-mounted cannons and machineguns, the Annapolis picked a large depth charge from the dispenser on her back. A calculated throw sent the charge bouncing down the concrete hall, right into the room where Maruyu had taken cover.

Annapolis: "Got a present for ya!"

The improvised grenade shook the entire corridor, flickering the lights and showering everyone nearby with concrete. When the dust settles, the commandos find a gaping hole blown in the side of the old fort.
Maruyu and Nimu are instantly wrecked. The seaplane tender Akitsushima also suffered moderate damage (12 points).

>Goya and her seven remaining teammates found themselves stranded and have to fend for themselves. With Maruyu and Nimu instantly turned to mush, she radios in on Nagato.

Goya: "Secretary Nagato to I-58 Goya! Come in! COME IN ON THIS LANDLINE!"

>No response, Goya and the team are stuck in a team deathmatch where the only way out is to eliminate all enemies before making their escape.
>Goya found herself bumping against an alternative exit, and shouted to her teammates on the radio.

Goya: "Ha, I found myself a way out. LET'S GET OUT OF HERE!"
Kamoi: "We're right behind you, everyone, stick with Goya, move!"

>Kamoi, Mizuho, and Akitsushima pulled out their standard issue MP7's and fire back at Charlotte and Annapolis whilst running away with company.
>Goya leads the team down to a tunnel, ushers all of her teammates and presses the button on the elevator to ride back up to the surface, preventing the two North American girls from reaching them.
>By now, the other three Abyssal ships hastily responded to the alarm, and are surely waiting for them outside.

>Charlotte took 12 points from a few direct bullets, whereas Annapolis suffers fatal wounds. Scratch damage on Goya from the engagement.

OFFICIAL DISPATCH
Date: August 2nd, 2017

"August first, two-thousand-seventeen. A date which shall live in infamy! On that day, the Hawai'ian Socialist Republic was suddenly and deliberately attacked by the naval and air forces of the Greater Lucian Empire. Despite our differences, the United Socialist States of North America had maintained its alliance with that nation in good faith, and yesterday's attack constitutes not only an unprecedented and barbaric act of aggression, but the violation of our trust as a country.

It will be recorded that, to this moment, the Lucian Empire has failed to deliver any sort of written ultimatum. And it will also be recorded, if you please, that the attack heavily damaged the chief Abyssal anchorage in the Pacific. The Lucian government has displayed no qualms about expressing its intolerance of our former enemies-turned-allies, and I can only gather that such an act was committed equally in the name of prejudice, as well as territorial ambition. I regret to tell you that very many lives - Human, Armadan, and especially Abyssal - have been lost.

Yesterday, the Lucian government also launched an attack on Riselian-held Malaya.
Last night, Lucian forces attacked HK Island.
Last night, Lucian forces attacked the Abyssal anchorage at Guam.
Last night, Lucian forces attacked the Philippines.
Last night, the Lucians attacked W Island.
And this morning, we have received word that Lieseltania and the Copper-Black Cross have honored their military alliances.

The Lucian Empire has, therefore, undertaken a surprise offensive extending throughout the Pacific area. The facts of yesterday and today speak for themselves. The people of North America have already formed their opinions and well understand the implications to the very life and safety of our country.

As Commander in Chief of the Navy and Army, I have ordered the immediate mobilization of every fleet and brigade available for our defense. No matter how long it may take us to overcome this premeditated invasion, the North American people in their righteous might will win through to absolute victory. I believe that I interpret the will of the Parliaments and of the people when I assert that we will not only defend ourselves to the uttermost, but will make it very certain that this form of treachery shall never endanger us again.

Hostilities exist. There is no blinking at the fact that our people, our territory, and our ideals, are in grave danger.

I ask that the Parliaments declare that since the unprovoked and dastardly attack on Tuesday, August 1st, 2017, a state of war has existed between North America and the Greater Lucian Empire."

  • Cordelia Thompson, President

Ivy couldn't tell you how long she'd been here. All she remembered was how she'd died.

It all happened so quickly, yet every detail remained crisp in her mind. Watching the Shindens through the tent's viewslits, seeing their recons planes sweep the area. Her stomach sank like a stone once she'd realized what - or rather who - they'd been looking for.

Her first instinct was to tackle Nakamura throw her under the map table. Ivy was finished, but perhaps a miracle would save her second. Just as she'd whirled about however, a great white figure appeared in the corner of her vision. The resident Harbor Princess charged charged her with incredible agility, sweeping her up with monstrous appendages and pinning her against the warm, wet ground.

There was a tremendous din, and horrible shaking all around her. The last thing the admiral recalled was the feeling of her right arm burning away in the intense heat, before the world faded to black.

Things were quiet now. Once she'd opened her eyes, the admiral found herself submerged in an endless expanse of blue water. A splash of sunlight rippled some yards above her, and a quick check of her limbs found them all miraculously intact.

Her first instinct was to make for the surface. Then she realized she could breathe. Yet for all the admiral's effort, that dollop of sunlight remained just as far as when she'd started. And when she eventually tired, Ivy found herself sinking towards the murky depths at her feet. A second attempt utterly exhausted her strength, and only quickened the subsequent descent.

With little else to do but watch the sunlight shrink, Ivy curled up and fell deep into thought. Perhaps this was some sort of afterlife? If so, it'd be entirely seemly for someone like her.

She'd failed them. Though she'd strode into her command with the utmost confidence , all she'd done is send their fleet girls to die in pointless battles far from home. She could've turned away, of course. Though nobody amongst them would've liked it, they could've just turned tail and ran to San Fran. If only she'd had the courage, perhaps they'd all still be alive. Perhaps Natsu-

Ivy shook the thought from her head. She'd leave that harsh reality for another day.

By now the sun was little more than a distant memory to the admiral. That splash of sunlight had shrank to a twinkle, then a speck, then a mote, before leaving her vision entirely. Though she squinted hard as she could, all Ivy saw was an endless black all around her. Her ears only perceived the water displacement from her flailing, the low rumble of her toned muscles, and soon enough, the quickening pace of her heart.

The thoughts returned with a vengeance. Nakamura was dead. Why wasn't she here? Was this the special hell for shitty admirals? Maybe this really was where she belonged.

Yorktown was dead. She'd seen the poor carrier go up in smoke at the far end of the harbor. It was a grisly scene, still fresh in her mind from the surprise attack at Pearl. Dozens of bombs turned her flight deck to splinters, pounding through her hull and snapping her centerline bulkhead in half. Ivy could've only imagined the pain as she struggled to beach herself, only to disappear behind a curtain of scalding spray. Then went Lincoln, then the battleship Redwood. Sweet little things, perhaps too good for these sinful seas.

Visions of her shipgirls' broken bodies assaulted her mind. Every single one seemed like a small story brought to an abrupt and tragic end. Her defenses only wavered as their individual chapters flooded back.

Marigold: "A- Are you serious? ... That means the world to me, Admiral. I promise I'll do my very best out there!"

I'm sure you did. Why did they have to pick you first?

Shaw: "We make war such that we may live in peace. I trust you, Admiral."

Dammit, why did you have to say that?

Chevalier: "Leave it to me, Admiral! With my blade and your wits, there's no way they could best us! En garde!"

Shut up.

Redwood: "C'mere hun! ... Yeh, yeh. 'Rear Admiral' this, 'personal space' that. I can't help it, the commander's such a cutie!"

Please shut up.

Hawai'i: "I dunno Admiral, wouldn't ya rather send my big sis? I mean she's way tougher, meaner, plus she's actually been in-... Ahah, shucks Admiral. You're makin' me blush."

Please, just leave her alone.

No good. Even as she curled up in a ball, grit her teeth, grasped her head tight, the recollections kept on coming. She saw them now. Their faintly glowing figures baring bright smiles all around the commander. Ivy reached out to Nakamura, but she drifted just past arm's reach. Speaking to her still, unearthing those horrible, happy memories from her previous life. Talking back to them did nothing, and flailing her fists was an exercise in futility. She plugged up her ears, but all it did was echo their words off the inside of her skull. And as her former comrades finally approached, all Ivy could do was cry in anguish as they smothered her with affection.

The torture continued for what seemed like hours. Hundreds of undeserved hugs, kisses, and expressions of gratitude. Yet just as Ivy had resigned herself to eternal torment, the figures suddenly vanished, and she found herself trembling like mad as she clutched the blanket.

Blanket. Sheets. She was in a bed.

Her immediate instinct was to sit up and get to her feet. A sharp pain in her abdomen persuaded her otherwise.

???: "Easy now, Admiral. The doctors here worked a miracle, but you still need to rest."
Taylor: "Fft. Nice to seeya too, Secretary."

Hold up. What the hell was she doing here?

Ivy's gaze instantly snapped the person she'd just spoken to. There, sat on a small metal chair pulled beside her bed, was an older girl with skin pale as a ghost's. A wide-brimmed black hat rested atop her onyx hair. As Ivy gawked, she met the admiral's gaze with a radiant pair of hazel eyes.

Yorktown: "You are surprised. I had figured you would be."
Taylor: "Yorktown, you have ten seconds to tell me what the hell is going on. I saw you die."
Yorktown: "I should know; I was there."
Taylor: "And then?"

Here Yorktown let out a sigh. Smiling slightly, she leaned over to the side table and fetched the small mirror she'd kept handy for the admiral.

Yorktown: "Perhaps it's best you see for yourself."

Ivy's jaw plummeted. Meeting her gaze was a terrifying figure with skin like a corpse. Her long silver hair had turned a flawless white, and a powerful glow illuminated her golden eyes. But the real shock was her arm. In place of a prosthetic, the admiral had grown a monstrous black claw-like appendage nearly as large as her entire body. It must've easily weighed hundreds of pounds, yet she lifted it effortlessly to inspect the yellow lights running down its side, the great silver blades in place of her fingers.
A horrifying thought occurred to her. If she so desired, she could've easily crushed the chair Yorktown was sitting on, and likely its occupant along with.
Her secretary didn't seem to mind, however. Getting to her feet and assuming a curt salute, she regarded Ivy with a broad, gleaming grin.

Yorktown: "Welcome to the Abyssal Fleet, Admiral Taylor. It's my honor to serve you."

I was feelin' creative today. Inspired partly by this. Hope ya like! ^^

Very well then, you just made me and my people back on Lucia very, very angry.

>In the daylight hours on August 4, the 17th KanMusu Fleet, now at six dozen strong with several victories in a row, they assume they're an unstoppable force within Pacific waters.
>Given the recent light of the heightened tensions, Lucia has given permission to proceed for the fleet's admiral to reclaim any battles the original IJN navy had lost. Surely, Houki kept her confidence among her many teammates; they are masters of the sea.

Houki: "Secretary Nagato, didn't you know that we didn't actually tried to eliminate everyone within the short span of our voyages?"
Nagato: "Admiral! We already went through this; we have half of this ocean on our control, get over it!"
Houki: "We come to the realization that the Abyssals carry some kind of power that we can't comprehend, what was it?"
Nagato: "The 'malice', a dark, heretical art of magic from the deepest waters capable of reviving any dead vessel."
Houki: "W-What!? How could such a thing able to exist? Ships don't sink twice!"
Nagato: "Somehow, the Abyss right below our very feet is where if any vessel happen to sink for any reason, a short while later, its reviving properties gives them a new lease of life, at the expense of erasing every last trace of being human, changing its appearance, thus becoming an Abyssal. This strain of the malice is said to give them a second chance, but in order to live off in its new form, it forces the newly revived girl into sinking other ships, otherwise the malice will within days or weeks rupture her from the inside and eventually re-sink her."

>Just then, the 17th KanMusu Fleet sighted a small island with one long airfield, and one shipyard. Lightly defended, this gives them a big advantage for a headstart.

Nagato: "Flower formation! Battleships, stay in the center with the Admiral! Carriers in rear! Submarines, prepare to crash dive! Cruisers, you must protect our sides, and destroyers, get in front! Once we are in range of the island's defenses, we'll split and bombard it until their command center is gone."
Houki: "Support ships, do what you can to keep our ships up and running! We are a very large force, so we should wipe them out within minutes!"
Yamato: "This is Flagship Yamato; it's time to grill this island to bits! Don't let me sink!"

I'm still not quite feeling a hundred percent. But I'm hoping to get in one more decisive battle after this one, so I hope ya don't mind. ^^ ]]

When the North American commodore Marcus Hale accepted his new command at W Island, he'd known full-well that it was going to be attacked. Not when, not how, perhaps only a rough guess at by whom, but certainly by someone someday soon. The island formed a natural crossroads in the Pacific: West to Guam and the gateway to Asia, north to the Aleutians and Abyssal Alaska, and east to Hawai'i and beyond. And though technology had marched on, and fleet girls no longer had to refuel past leaving Pearl, the island's potential as a staging area made it a juicy target for Lucia or an angry Pravda. Which is precisely why the commodore was so frustrated with his superiors.

Time and time again, the officer had warned them about the island's vulnerability. They'd never listened of course, and as such W Island looked less like a critical North American outpost and more like an old folk's home for shipgirls. Deemed either too antiquated or too unskilled to cost-effectively refit, over a dozen Armadans made their bunks in the atoll's expansive mulberry harbor. He'd run a tight ship of course - morning drills every day and patrols throughout the nights - but there was little need. His garrison knew how to fight. They just needed a reason.

So when the main arm of the Lucian fleet suddenly shifted course from Midway to Wake, everyone was ready.

Sitting at his desk in the island's command bunker, paying a nod to his wife in the radio operator's seat, Hale keyed the comm with his scouting force.

Hale: "How many, Alba?"
Albacore: "You ain't gonna like this."
Hale: "Talk to me, what're we dealing with? A task force? A whole carrier group?"
Albacore: "Seven battleships, -eight- fleet carriers... By all the ships they've got, I'd say we're dealin' with the whole Lucian armada right 'ere."

Hale's wife glanced over at him with a pair of radiant red eyes. The apprehension was plain on her pale face.

Hale: "Mm... Get back to base Albacore, you'll need fuel. Hale out."
Isolated Princess Wake: "Channel closed... So it's come to this, eh?"
Hale: "Send a dispatch to FleetCom, tell 'em what's going on. There's no way Intelligence coulda missed a fleet of that size. With any luck, they'll have reinforcements a couple hours out."
Isolated Princess Wake: "And if they don't?"
Hale: "We'll be fine, Runica... I'll make sure. And if I can't? Your old outfit still fits."

~SEVERAL HOURS LATER~

Nevada: "Enemy fleet sighted, bearing three-forty-one! Looks like they're in a ring formation."
Juneau: "This ain't lookin' good..."
Arizona: "Heh. They don't stand a chance."

The North American hero battleship Arizona squinted through her magnified sights. By her mark, they'd have only ten minutes till the lead destroyers closed to gun range.

Arizona: "Alright gals, here's the plan. Us dreadnoughts are gonna punch a gaping hole in their southside cruiser screen. Battlecruisers, your speed's gonna take you in front of the destroyer pack."

Eight minutes. Arizona placed heavy emphasis on her next words.

Arizona: "Watch for torps! They've likely got subs somewhere 'round here. O'Bannon, Willie-Dee? I'm countin' on your Hedgehogs if push comes to shove."
O'Bannon: "Understood, lass!"
W.D. Porter: "Ye- Yeah! I'll try my best, Arizona-ma'am!"

Five minutes. By now both parties were eagerly training their guns.

Arizona: "Carriers, it's up to you gals to take on the battleships. See if ya can keep the fighters off us too."
Langley: "We're way ahead of you, ma'am!"
Yakutat: "And the flattops?"
Arizona: "Once we've shattered their formation we'll worry about 'em. In the meantime, I'm countin' on you gals to keep the fighters off our backs."
Lexington: "Yes, ma'am!"

One minute. By now, a swarm of nearly five hundred Hellcats, Avengers, and Dauntlesses had taken off from the carrier groups and eyed each other through the wispy clouds.
As their enemy's opening volley shook the seas, Arizona grit her teeth and squeezed the trigger.

Arizona: "We're in range! Turn 'em to scrap, gals!"

The destroyers Miyuki (40 points) and Shirayuki (38 points) are sunk in the opening stages by concentrated fire from two Alaska-class battlecruisers. Akatsuki was also heavily damaged (21 points), and Yuudachi has sustained minor damage (5 points) from a hit to her forecastle. The destroyers have yet to close to gun range, but torpedos may work if their targets get careless.
The Arizona and her formation have dived headlong into the fight, training all guns on one half of the Lucian screen. The cruisers Jintsuu, Isuzu, Maya, and Chikuma were eliminated by concentrated fire from this battlegroup. Torpedos from their protecting destroyers were largely dodged, but struck Chikuma and the battleship Mutsu for for minor damage (27 points, 31 points respectively).
The air battle is intense, with North American Hellcats and VT Shells granting the initial advantage. While the enemy fighters were kept at bay, Musashi was struck by several torpedo-equipped Catalinas courtesy of Yakutat (58 points), and Hyuuga suffered many bomb hits and a magazine explosion from North American Dauntlesses (102 points).

>It is then that somehow, the Lucians are ambushed by an enemy armada of their own, and any ships they didn't sink in all their previous battles have joined them.
>Already seeing a few destroyers and cruisers taken in to the deep waters, never to be seen again, it is clear that a sudden change of formation to confuse the enemy is a necessity.

Houki: "We are under attack! Don't let them try to get anywhere near the Yamato as we close in on the island!"
Nagato: "Submarines! Get behind the battleships and sink them fast!"
Goya: "We're on it! Team, let's drag these big girls to the bottom, with haste!"
Amatsukaze: "Round we go, in the name of my avenged sister! My fellow friends of my class, we must go tango on the other destroyers!"

>The air battle is likely handing over to the Abyssal side, but the AA guns coming from the big Imperial ships quickly brought most of them down within seconds.

Nagato: "They won't be the first to underestimate the Big Seven."
Mutsu: "Serves them right, Nagato! We bested those planes!"

>Amatsukaze led her fellow destroyers to torpedo some enemy destroyers. Some of their torpedoes manage to hit Rooks, Paul Hamilton, and Laffey, but missed on the rest.
>Goya and her two teammates Iku and Shioi crash dive to avoid getting depth charged, taking light damage from the crushing depths with them, they spotted all four enemy battleships, but they focus on sinking the Arizona and Nevada by firing their front-mounted torpedoes, heavily damaging them and causing some leaks.

Goya: "Keep ourselves following the rear of the battleships, crash dive if any enemy destroyer gets on top of us!"

>The carrier group led by Akagi fired off their suicide planes in an attempt to help the submarine team finish off the two ships before proceeding to hit the other two battleships, the Alabama and Indiana for moderate damage.
>Cruisers led by Furutaka and Tenryuu fired back at some other enemy ships for moderate damage to Reno and Juneau, heavy damage on San Diego, and minor damage to Samoa due to her heavy armor.

Tenryuu: "Geez! There's like sooo many of them!"
Furutaka: "I got something! Tenryuu, help your fellow light cruisers take care of the destroyers! My heavy cruisers and I will duel with the big girls!"
Tenryuu: "I'm on it!"

Yamato: "Fire our cannons! Repeat; fire our main cannons on the island! We're mostly in range!"

>Yamato and her big ships turned their main cannons facing Wake, it nearly missed, but they knew they're close.
>Arizona and Nevada suffer fatal damage from a combination of submarine torpedoes and kamikaze planes, Alabama and Indiana suffer 64 and 51.
>Rooks, Reno, and Paul Hamilton are sunk, evasion served well for some, but not so much for others, too.
>Laffey takes 27, Juneau, San Diego, and Samoa only took 35, 38, and 16, respectively.
>Two-thirds of the enemy air planes are downed by AA guns, mostly from the IJN battleships.
>Goya, Iku, and Shioi took 4 themselves from crush depth.

Nevada stumbled to her hands and knees as the aircraft exploded within the heavy hull on her back. A lucky hit to the engine room stopped her dead in the water.
Feeling the water pile into her compartments, drag her right leg into the sea, the aviation battleship fired off every last remaining clip for her M1 carbine.
A quarter of her planes were splashed just after they'd left the deck, and a fair handful more were shot down as they escaped the enemy formation. But she'd given them a fighting chance, and that was good enough for her.

Meanwhile, her cousin Arizona would remain defiant to the end. Eyes wide, legs planted sturdy upon the low waves, the grizzled veteran unloaded shell after shell into whoever dared to pass in front of her guns. No matter how hard they hit her, she simply refused to sink.

Arizona: "Imperialist scum! You call that an attack, huh?!"

Her final moments saw heavy damage to the light cruiser Kuma, and beat poor Hyuuga to within an inch of her life. Another volley struck the destroyer Kisaragi, knocking her off her feet and wrecking her engine. Then with her last barrage, she turned her guns to the light carrier Ryuuhou, striking her quiver and igniting a massive fire within her outfit.
By now the Arizona was truly a sight to behold. Her essences were leaking from all over her hull, turning most of her uniform a ruddy shade of black. Her numbers one and two turrets were gone, and most of her secondary battery had been eroded by constant shelling.

Arizona: "Despera ferro, motherfuckers! We'll die as we lived, ON OUR FEET!"

Ultimately it was Yamato who did her in. Aiming carefully with a main gun, she struck the battleship's magazine, ripping her in half and setting her essences alight.
The Lucian cruisers were jostled by a tremendous burst of heat, and battleship disappeared behind a plume of heat. No one ever saw her sink, but the thick splatters of oil and shrapnel spoke for themselves.

As the source of the smoke disappeared beneath the waves, Arizona's screen had already regrouped around the remaining two battleships. Not intent on wasting their comrade's efforts, they swung their guns to the enemy dreadnoughts and fired a thundrous barrage at the front of their formation. Nagato and Musashi endured only minor damage, but Hyuuga was knocked clean off her feet. Singled out and battered hard, the dreadnought had only moments to say goodbye before she slipped beneath the waves.

Indiana: "Hell yeah! Scratch one enemy battleship!"
Alabama: "You reckon that was one of the Big Seven?"
Indiana: "Who knows, who cares? We'll sink 'em all the same!"

As Laffey launched another volley of torpedoes towards the light carrier Junyou, her sonar suite alerted her to three faint signatures rising from underneath.

Laffey: "Enemy subs, right under our seven o'clock! Kid!"
Stephanie: "I'm on it, I'm on it! Just a -little- bit closer... There it is!"

Just when the three subs ascended to combat depth some distance away from the destroyer screen, a rain of tiny bomblets careened through the air into the water around Shioi. They exploded in unison, rupturing armor and inviting the seawater into her outfit.

Stephanie: "I- I got one, I got one!"
Laffey: "Don't jinx yourself, kid! And try not to get hit!"

Meanwhile, at the front of the formation, the Lucian destroyers had easily outmaneuvered the battlecruisers and were aiming for a counterattack. Guam wasn't intent on letting that happen.

Guam: "Task force! Turn hard right and head 'em off! Destroyers, cover our rears in case the subs sneak up on us!"
San Diego: "I'm hurt bad... Ngh, fuck!"
William D. Porter: "This ain't lookin' good!"

As the battlecruisers loaded their guns for another volley, the carriers and their formation were hastening to the far side of the atoll. They'd have to sail around the large mulberry harbor to the east, and their screen's peashooters couldn't even return fire at such extreme range.
The carriers all fired as one: Langley with a musket, Lexington and Bogue with bows, Princeton with a carbine, and Yakutat with her trusty revolver. An attack force of nearly a hundred planes - largely outdated Devastators and Wildcats - angled themselves for a near-suicidal attack.
Losses were heavy, but random jukes and aerial skids minimized the casualties. By time they reached their targets, the heavy cruisers Kaguro and Ashigara, they had just enough torps to sink the former and immobilize the latter.
Langley let out a great sigh as their attack wave peeled off. Many of her fighters didn't make it, but their sacrifice wouldn't be in vain.

Lexington: "We hit 'em hard, we hit 'em well. Now let's send 'em straight to hell! Task force, train weapons and await my orders! Our next target: The battleship Nagato!"

Hyuuga has suffered an inglorious demise at the hands of the two North American battleships.
Shioi was sunk by a Hedgehog volley from the Stephanie. Iku also suffered two point's damage due to proximity.
The light cruiser Yura was heavily damaged by close-range fire from Nevada's two turrets (41 points).
Ryuuhou is afire, and her flight deck will require significant repair before it's available for aircraft operations (28 points).
Akatsuki was finished off by the Alaska siblings, with Shigure taking heavy damage as well (21 points) and Yuudachi enduring another 10 points of damage. Akizuki also took 7 points from the San Diego.
Kuma took 46 points of damage during Arizona's last stand.
Kaguro has sunk due to concentrated torpedo hits.
Kisaragi and Ashigara have been immobilized, taking 13 and 62 damage respectively.

30x PT Boats numbered 100 to 130 - 30/30

Wake Island Command Center - 300/300

>Seeing as though the Abyssals aren't fooling around, it prompted the IJN to stay together and not stray too far from the formation.
>Those four downed ships soon joined six others, taking little time to utter their last words.

Hyuuga: "May our empire one day live to see the sun again. You fought me well." Hyuuga is lost
Shioi: "You wild b-beast!... y-you! Shioi is lost
Akatsuki: "To sink in a place like this, I hate it. Curse on you!" Akatsuki is lost
Haguro: "I really hope the other KanMusu will fare better than me." Haguro is lost

>With Kisaragi and Ashigara found themselves stripped of their movement, they yelled over the support ships on the radio.
>Ryuuhou is on fire, and screams for Akashi as well for aid.

Kisaragi: "Akashi! We're being cut off, help us move again!"
Ashigara: "If I only have thruster upgrades now, I wouldn't have this problem. Akashi! Get over here!"
Ryuuhou: "Fire! FIRE within my deck!"
Akashi: "Affirmative, I'll swing around and try to help you, but I can only do one of you at a time."

>Six IJN dreadnoughts is a big shrug off for all of them, they don't falter in continuing with the mission.
>The other IJN destroyers seem to be doing very well on the opposite side of the enemy formation, cutting in with their natural high evasion.
>Akagi and the rest of her carrier group that didn't suffer malfunctions pay no mind to their losses, and fires off the heavy hitters: Oscars, Shindens, Raidens, Jills, and Judies.

Akagi: "We just have to do it; we are bound by honor above everything." she aims her bow high and then fires

>The destroyer teams split their formations to confuse the enemy even further, Amatsukaze, Hatsushimo, Yayoi and Shigure form up and drop torpedoes on O'Bannon, William D. Porter, and somehow able to damage a bit to Stephanie and sink the Laffey.

Amatsukaze: "Good job, team! We manage to sink the Laffey, the O'Bannon, and William D. Porter!"
Yuudachi: "I'll show you all... the nightmare of the Solomon, POI!"

>Fubuki, Akizuki, Ushio, Yuudachi, and Murakumo also form up and try to sink the little ones. Though they are fast, their very high evasion manage to get out their way and it only took little effort to rid Charlotte, Key West, and Allentown with their main cannons, saving their torpedoes.

Fubuki: "It's always a pleasure having myself doing my job."

>The cruisers continued focusing on their tasks: the light cruisers taking on the weak, and the heavy cruisers taking on the strong. With Yakutat heavily damaged by the light cruisers, she can't move and her seaplane deck is malfunctioned. They then go on to finish off Stephanie with their main cannons.
>Tenryuu is feeling happier that the majority of the enemy armada is losing morale, seeing fear in their faces.

Tenyruu: "So scared of us, now!? Run away if you can, and we'll finish you off!"

>As the air battle quickly turned even, the carrier group is feeling happy that these outdated planes are just... obsolete. They then order their planes to deal with the carriers, leaving Furutaka to handle the battlecruisers.
>Furutaka and her team of heavy cruisers withstand the barrages of the big enemy ships, and are able to get a bead on Guam, Puerto Rico, and Samoa for moderate damage.
>As the enemy carriers watch in horror receiving the coup de grace, they knew that the IJN are really onto something.

Akagi: "Heavy damage reported on the Langley, Lexington, and Princeton!"

>Goya and Iku split up, with Goya to find Albacore, and Iku to sink the Alabama and Indiana. Iku is able to damage the Alabama with her torpedoes, causing huge holes on Alabama's starboard.

>Yamato and her five other big ships concentrate their fire on the island, whilst their AA guns do the work on the enemy planes. Minor damage is dealt to the command center, knowing that they're within their 2.8 km range. Houki begins to smile, as their progress is swift and effective.

Houki: "The island's base is now taking damage. The real battle is just getting started!"
Mutsu: "Yeah! We're doing really well now!"

>The following Abyssal ships have been sunk: O'Bannon, William D. Porter, Charlotte, Key West, Allentown, Stephanie, Laffey, and San Diego.
>Heavy damage on Langley, Lexington, Bogue, and Princeton for 40, 43, 33, and 35.
>Moderate damage on Yakutat, Juneau, Guam, Puerto Rico, Samoa, Alabama, and Indiana for 30, 15, 40, 33, 44, and 39.
>3 PTs were unintentionally destroyed by the battleships, and dealt 27 points to the command center, dropping to 273.
>Akashi repairs the Yuudachi, Shigure, Ryuuhou, Kisaragi and Ashigara fully, but took herself 17 from the engagement.

Guam: "Willie-Dee, look out!"
William D. Porter: "Wha-?"

Willie-Dee let out an agonized cry when the torpedoes struck home. Her leg buckled by the second hit, exposing the front of her forecastle to the scalding hot spray.
When she'd finally collected herself, she found her right viewport out of commission, her hat knocked clean off her head, and a torrent of water piling into her compartments.
Admittedly she'd somewhat expected this. After all her years of hard luck, she'd figured it was only a matter of time. Hacking up a quart of seawater, watching O'Bannon split in half and slip beneath the waves, Willie-Dee keyed the comm to send her final message.
No response. Her radio antenna must've been busted.

William D. Porter: "Sh- Shoot... This can't be the end, right?"

Just then, a massive explosion rocked the San Diego. Willie's arms crossed in front of her face, shielding her remaining eye from a burst of shrapnel and smoke. The battered Atlanta class collapsed into the water and sank like a stone, taking her entire crew of fairies along with. Soon it'd be her turn.
With her last minute, she resolved to plug one final shot towards the nearby enemy destroyers. They'd ignored her after she'd stopped dead in the water, and a juicy target soon drifted in front of her gunsights.
A younger gal, incredibly petite and wearing silverish hair just past her hips. Her outfit bristled with guns, and possessed a strange pair of ear-like nacelles atop her head.

William D. Porter: "Eeasy, Willie-Dee. Like huntin' rabbits with pa-pa..."

The water had reached her hips. It was now or never for the destroyer.
Squinting through the gunsight with her off eye, she fired a burst of six shots from her five-inch gun. Most missed, but one hit her target's forecastle, and another landed the killing blow against the depth charges on her back.
Murakamo vanished in a burst of fire, smoke, and spray. Though no one was there to see it, the NAS William D. Porter sank with a huge, glimmering smile spread across her freckled face.

William D. Porter: "I- I did it... I finally helped..."

Meanwhile, nestled deep within the bunker on W Island, Commodore Marcus Hale knit his brow as the first shells sent rumbles through the concrete. His wife, clad in gothic dress and manning the radio, reported their latest losses.

Isolated Princess Wake: "The destroyers O'Bannon, Laffey, and Stephanie have sent their last words. Our carriers have suffered heavy damage; their escorts are gone, and the Yakutat's seaplane cranes are out of commission."
Hale: "What about our battleships?"
Isolated Princess Wake: "Juneau's on her last legs, but they're in range of the carriers. Shall I order them to concentrate fire?"
Hale: "Do it."
Isolated Princess Wake: "Yes, sir... I'm also getting reports that the San Diego and W.D. Porter have sunk."
Hale: "Where are our PT Corgis?"
Isolated Princess Wake: "Still near the east mulberry... Shall I order them to charge, darling?"
Hale: "Belay that. Have them skirt around the far side of the island and target the main formation from long range."
Isolated Princess Wake: "Aye sir. Relaying orders now."

Once she'd finished, the Abyssal princess got to her feet and strode slowly over to her ailing husband. He'd cradled his head between his hands, stared at the battle map as if it'd suddenly yield some tactical epiphany.
She ran a hand along his shoulder, tried to ease the burden on his mind. It didn't help much.

Hale: "Runica..."
Isolated Princess Wake: "Darling..."
Hale: "I know what you're thinking."
Isolated Princess Wake: "And...?"

Hale sighed as he finally met her gaze.

Hale: "I know you can handle yourself. But..."
Isolated Princess Wake: "You're worried about me."

Hale's shoulders slumped. She could read him like a book.

Hale: "All I'm saying is, just be careful out there. Promise me you'll come back. Please?"

Bending forth, the princess reeled him in for a tight squeeze from behind. Her cold lips pressed a kiss against her husband's scruffy cheek.

Isolated Princess Wake: "Of course, darling. I promise."

~***~

At that moment, two remaining North American battleships had swung their guns over to the Lucian flattops. The weather was swiftly turning from fair to stormy, but they paid little mind. While Juneau launched a small handful of torpedoes towards their dreadnoughts, the 'Bama and Indy launched a tremendous volley over the light carriers, onto the unfortunate Katsuragi.
The fleet carrier didn't even stand a chance. Her sister ship Unryuu was heavily damaged as well.

Indiana: "Set 'em up and knock 'em down! That's what you get for exposing your back line!"
Alabama: "It's a goddamn turkey shoot out here! Ey Indy, I got dibs on the twintails gal!"

Just as they'd started to train their sights however, a powerful, booming voice grabbed the attention of the entire battlefield. The two battleships looked over their shoulders.
A great red aura, vaugely shaped like a bird of prey, rose in the distance above W. Island.

Isolated Princess Wake: "It's admirable that you've come this far. Were you anyone else, I might've commended you. But your advance ends here!"

Abyssal fighters, the first any of the combatants had seen in years, launched off the island in droves. They were direly out of date and carried only light armament, but they numbered easily in the high hundreds.

Isolated Princess Wake: "The line shall be drawn here! Cat fighters, Hell bombers! Sweep these insects from the field!"

Murakamo was instantly vaporized by a depth charge explosion courtesy of the 'Porter.
The Alaskas have failed to hit the majority of their shots this round due to the destroyers' extreme evasion. Only Hatsushimo and Akebono were hit, both being struck for 23 points.
Katsuragi was destroyed by direct shelling from Indiana. Unryuu also suffered heavy damage (37 points) from Alabama's guns, and her flight deck will require significant repair before it can launch aircraft.
Torpedoes from the Juneau struck the Himawari for 22 points. She's taking on water, although it doesn't affect her much.
Wake's aircraft seem to be ignoring the destroyers and battleships, likely targeting the flattops. The Princess has superseded the armored command bunker as priority target.
The NAS Albacore has covertly withdrawn from the battle. She'll live to fight another day.

>With the island somewhat shielded by the presence of an enemy battle-hardened princess in the field, about three times more durable than current technology would allow, the initial attack plan on the island are cut off, forcing the whole 17th KanMusu Fleet to regroup and assess the situation.
>It appears the submarine team successfully nudged the Albacore harmlessly away from the battle map, and have to come back to be ready for the princess phase.
>Houki is slowly taking on the water line; Mutsu helped her seal the leaks, because she has only sailed for a couple of days.

Mutsu: "You have us, Admiral. I would pity you if you kept hugging the sea like that. Up you go!"
Houki: "Thank you. It really means a lot for us."
Goya: "Aw, what the heck? The lone submarine got away, pull back to formation with me, we'll be back on Yamato's backside in a few minutes!"

>Katsuragi didn't have time to say anything due to multiple simultaneous failures, she just sank immediately.
Katsuragi is lost
Murakumo: "I won't forgive you! That's right, I won't!" Murakumo is lost

>The 17th KanMusu Fleet is still very strong and healthy in numbers despite a couple more losses, which gives Yamato an opportunity to drop the initial orders and simply go all-out on the princess.

Yamato: "So... you come to destroy me? With elegance, I shall gladly destroy you as well. Commence all-out!"
Nagato: "Don't let her give the chance to evade!"
Houki: "Carriers, whatever planes you still have, give those monsters a godsend! For the Rising Sun!"
Akagi: "We're on it now, Zeroes, Kates, Vals, and heavy-hitters Kawanishis, Kawasakis, and Nakajimas! You're cleared to take off to face the princess!"
Houki: "Seaplane tenders, you are authorized for launching seaplanes."
Kamoi: "Copy that, Admiral! Launching the Mavis!"
Akashi: "Unryuu, I'm coming around, hang in there!"

>All other ships have no choice but to take risks and sink all other enemy ships in short order. Furutaka easily finish off the Juneau with only two more direct shells, most of them missed, the other heavy cruisers inflict a very good amount of shelling on Guam, Puerto Rico, and Samoa.
>The light cruisers are able to finish off the enemy carrier group with just a couple of shells, sending them all to the bottom. Tenryuu is satisfied at the swift work her cruiser team did.

Tenryuu: "Begone, you venomous squirms! Maggots like you don't have what it takes to face against the strongest armada on the planet!"
Furutaka: "Good work, Tenryuu!"

>The seaplanes launched from Kamoi, Akitsushima, and Mizuho are able to deliver the killing blow on Yakutat, sending her to the bottomless depths.
>All the while, hundreds of various IJN aircraft commence dogfight on the Abyssal fighters, keeping them distracted long enough for the entire fleet to start shelling and torpedoing the princess.
>While all of this is happening, Yamato and her teammates, including the Himawari, start firing all their cannons, including close range, onto the princess. The three destroyer teams Amatsukaze, Fubuki, and Ayanami merged to form one large destroyer team, now led by Fubuki, who has just gained enough experience to command an entire class.

Fubuki: "As your destroyer leader, I urge you all to form up on me and take on the battleships!"
Amatsukaze: "Yes, ma'am! We're all counting on you for this!"
Akizuki: "Sis, we got your back! You have this!"
Akebono: "Fubuki, me and Hatshushimo are taking a heavy beating! Don't worry; we got a lot of cover from the rest of us."

>Fubuki and her team's natural evasion help skirt around the enemy battleships and the princess like they never seen her doing this since she first taken lessons as a destroyer years ago. With the help of the seaplanes that still have spares, and some help from Vals, they manage to sink the enemy battleships and battlecruisers, leaving the princess the last one standing.
>The enemy carrier group is annihilated, removing them from the scene.

>The seaplane tender Yakutat is sunk by seaplanes.
>All enemy battleships and battlecruisers except the princess remain.
>Until the island princess is slain, Wake Island is shielded against attack. She has sustained 54 points due to her resilient armor.
>Akashi herself sustains another 8 points whilst repairing Unryuu.
>About 20% of the enemy aircraft are blown away, 7% of IJN aircraft are destroyed. Seems the IJN aircraft are also upgraded for increased damage and a bit of adjustments on their armor.

The princess grit her teeth as the rest of the garrison slipped below the waves. The two battleships clung desperately to each other as the water piled into their compartments, while the Alaska siblings continued fighting to the bitter end. Their heavy guns ravaged the smaller ships nearby, finishing off Akebono and Yura, and striking Ayanami right in the magazine.
Meanwhile, as her Cats ganged up on the advanced Lucian fighters, Wake's Hell dive bombers were already in the midst of their attack. A quirk in their aerodynamics created a horrible, shrill whining noise throughout their descent. Their armament was light, but they had numbers on their side, and some subconscious guidance from their mothership ensured its delivery.

Isolated Princess Wake: "Aim... Steady... Bombing...! Yes, there it is!"

At once, the back of the Lucian formation erupted with fire, smoke, and spray. Some of the 500-pounders fell right through Unryuu's damaged deck, striking her quiver and causing a massive explosion. Poor Akashi was taken along as a target of opportunity.
Meanwhile, a sizable contingent of the attack force had turned their sights to the dreadnoughts. Bearing heavy losses, they descended upon Musashi with dozens of 500-pounders, striking her engines and leaving her a twisted heap of scrap.
Then they'd do something unexpected. As they peeled off, the squadron leader banked left and yanked the proverbial stick as hard as he could, aiming his aircraft at the listing Himawari and Mutsu.
Admiral Shinonono had only seconds' warning before the first aircraft slammed into her helper. She might've tried scrambling to her feet, but the impacts of nearly a dozen planes kept her pinned upon her elbows and knees.
Mutsu wasn't so fortunate. The first attacks struck her right in the forecastle, knocking the proud battleship off her feet. They kept coming, several dozen of them, guns a-blazin' right into her outfit. Unlike the North Americans, Abyssals apparently had no qualms about sacrificing their own pilots.
It came at steep cost however. While her fighter wings remained strong, the Isolated Princess recovered only about a quarter of her attack squadron. She hastened to let them land and rearm within her outfit, all whilst continuing her barrage against the destroyers that ventured too close.

Isolated Princess Wake: "Leave this place, you wretched animals! Come hell or high water, I'm not gonna let you hurt my darling!"

The battleships Musashi and Mutsu have been taken out of the battle; the former by air assault, the latter by a Kamikaze-style attack. Admiral Shinonono also suffered 41 points of damage.
The Alaska siblings eliminated Akebono, Ayanami, and Yura in their final moments.
Unryuu has been completely destroyed, along with her sister ship Amagi. The support ships Akashi and Hayasui were sunk in the crossfire, dealing a significant blow to Lucian logistical efforts in the theatre.

Isolated Princess Wake - 426/480

Mutsu: "Now that ain't a surprise!" Mutsu is lost
Musashi: "As a proud girl of the Yamato-class, I fought bravely along with her, and now I'm taken my pride with it." Musashi is lost
Akebono: "You will die with me, you dip-shitty princess! Pfft!" Akebono is lost
Ayanami: "Fubuki, you can do this!" Ayanami is lost
Yura: "I-I rather die here than being decommissioned back in Japan." Yura is lost
Unryuu: "Well, this is no good for me, but I do hope I did my best." Unryuu is lost
Amagi: "So do I, sister. We fight and die together to save our fleet." Amagi is lost
Akashi: "Pumps gone holed, I'm sinking!" Akashi is lost
Hayasui: "I'm sinking! Crew abandon ship!" Hayasui is lost

>Nine more losses handed over to the bottomless sea, must've been the work of the unthinkable, suicidal Abyssal air squadrons.
>As long as the enemy princess still has a working flight deck, this battle can easily turn into a domino effect of dying shipgirls.

Yamato: "You will never... sink me. Japan will have revenge in due time."

>The IJN fighters continue skirting around the Abyssal squadrons, trying to bag as many as possible before descending on the princess.
>Some of the IJN bombers ignored the damage they received as they continue torpedoing and dumping pounds of bombs on her.
>Goya and Iku returned and are now guarding Yamato from underneath, ready to give their last bit of torpedoes.
>The seaplanes have taken a bit of a beating; they come around again and try to torpedo her once more before returning to their tenders.

Fubuki: "I know we can do this, all of my training for this very moment rests in me."

>Fubuki sighs as her team of fellow destroyers launching massive salvos of torpedoes at the princess, whilst the rest of the fleet started raining death on her relentlessly.

Yamato: "Keep attacking, keep attacking, and concentrate as much direct fire as we can!"
Nagato: "You can do this, team! Keep up the pace!"
Houki: "Don't loosen up, keep firing non-stop! Don't give in to the enemy!"

>The princess can take no more, and she's finally sunk after what may seem like a few minutes of never-ending barrages of shell fire and torpedoes.
>Wake Island surrenders to the Lucians, and has claimed three victories: Pearl, Nikumaroro, and Wake.

I won't let the Abyssals stage their land-based siege on Tokyo. My land forces will be ready.
Japan will handle itself without the need of her allies; the battle difficulty will be set to Legendary mode.

The 3 phases are as follows: First phase, the IJN land forces defend the Rainbow Bridge. If the bridge is destroyed, the second phase is to defend the iconic Tokyo tower. Once that falls too, the final phase is the Imperial Palace itself.

My land forces are in my dispatch post. Expect a very large garrison as well as some civilian militia from various prefectures, because the city will be heavily defended.

Get ready for the ultimate combined fleet showdown on Midway Island! There's no turning back now!

Midway was lost. Despite her unwavering faith in Admiral Darjeeling's orders and the grand tales she'd heard of the North American Navy, all she saw was tall wisps of smoke rising from the northern horizon, and a veritable armada of enemy fleet girls milling about the crucial atoll. The battleship Iowa, regarded worldwide as the pride of North American engineering, stood battered and beached upon one of the low shoals to the southwest. A trio of German heavy cruisers maintained a constant guard around the dreadnought, keeping their sights trained on her sooty white summer hat. One could only imagine the rest of her fleet hadn't been so fortunate.

She'd try to run away. And on a clear day she might've stood a chance. But just after she'd turned about and shunted full power to her four screws, the Black Princess caught sight of an German floatplane peeking at her from between the low clouds. A burst from her flak battery brought it down within seconds, but it was already too late. Its fairies had already sent their transmission, and by time her internal timepiece hit five o'clock, a quartet of Axis destroyers had escorted her to the atoll and stripped her of her outfit.

They tossed her brusqely onto the beach. The fine sand stung like hell when it got in her viewport.

Black Princess: "Bloody krauts... What the hell are you doing here? This isn't your ocean."

Shimmying onto her rump, the Princess shot a nasty glare at her two guards. A pair of destroyers, likely Italian by the paint on their guns. Their training told them to speak sparingly, and after exchanging a glance they kept completely silent throughout the entire ordeal. The Black Princess would make several attempts to pry them further, but their unchanging expressions convinced her to abandon the effort.

Minutes passed like hours. She whiled away the time by watching the enemy armada on maneuvers. Military parades were one thing, but never in her service life had the Black Princess seen so many combat-ready ships at once. She imagined they must've expected a battle among battles - a cataclysmic showdown against the Allied navies. Yet she eventually found their commanders bickering in the center of the lagoon. Their mannerisms were rude, accusatory on occasion, and their constant references to the charts in their hands signaled confusion.

Meanwhile, the clouds were quickly getting thicker, hanging low in the sky far as the eye could see. A glance upwards revealed great whips of white lighting cracking against the dark gray. As her internal windglass plummeted, the Princess began to notice a slight draft coming from the northeast. The draft then turned to a breeze, then a gale, before settling into a arrhythmic series of powerful gusts coupled with rain. Even her two guards couldn't help but discuss it amongst themselves, though the howling air prevented her from hearing much.

A strong and sudden burst scattered papers out of their commanders' hands, and the meeting adjourned swiftly after. Yet just as the Italian had started sailing over to the beach, the Black Princess watched her drift to a slow halt, eyes locked some distance past the inlet. The rest of their fleets soon followed, prompting the Black Princess to cup hands around her eyes and follow suit.

What she saw next would forever be etched upon the material of her mind.

A large group of fleet girls amassed on the southern horizon, baring heavy guns and sailing straight for the atoll. She noted their skin as uniformly pale, almost like a cadaver's. Their outfits, if one could even call them that, were cast of some black alloy and designed with toothy, gaping maws that housed their weapons. A handful brandished rifles instead, and wore on their arms a flight deck made of that very same black alloy.
But undoubtedly the most striking features of these vessels could be found resting upon their shoulders. Framed in locks of white or glossy black, their pretty faces were twisted by a quiet, seething sort of hatred. Some grimaced with bared teeth, some snickered with suppressed glee. Yet without exception, their glowing gazes all intimated a morbid eagerness to do battle with their enemy.

The Abyssal Fleet had arrived.

~***~

Commanding from the center of the formation, Admiral Ivy Taylor rallied her fleet. She ordered the destroyers to lag behind a few hundred yards; the battleships would take the brunt of the enemy's opener. The heavy cruisers would follow suit with their own salvo, before slowly dropping back to form a sort of protective curtain all around the formation. Undoubtedly their enemy would try and surround them, and as such it was imperative they keep them at bay.
The four Atlanta sisters were spaced out such that they formed an impenetrable flak battery within the formation. And the carriers, largely clustered near the center-rear, appeared to be reloading their rifles as the battleships trained their cannons. By time anyone realized the significance, it was far too late.
A veritable swarm of Dauntlesses poured out of the clouds, engines screaming, guns ablaze. Their first attack targeted the front of the Axis formation, devastating their destroyers and cruisers with heavy bombs. Moments later, Abyssal shells rained in a wide spread towards their larger ships, buffeting Prinz Eugen and knocking poor Takao off her feet. Luckily among the capital ships, only the Irene, Scharnhost, and San Giorgio were lost to the initial volley.

The struck vessels erupted with smoke and fire. Watching from afar as her cannons reloaded, seeing the shattered hulls of their enemies smolder and slip beneath the waves, Ivy suddenly found a bright grin spread across her face.

Taylor: "Yes, that's it... Sink for me..."

The Irene, Scharnhost, and San Giorgio were lost in the initial volley. The other heavy cruisers and battleships suffered only light damage, which I'll allow you to determine the HP values for.
Casualties are much higher among the smaller vessels, with Raimondo Motecuccoli, Emanuele Filiberto Duca d'Aosta, Audace, Nicolosso da Recco, Max Schultz, Thetis, Medusa, Yahagi, Agano, and Yayoi; all being sunk or otherwise incapacitated.

Sidenote: I really, really wanted to touch this post up and make it perfect. But sadly time constraints and ill health forced me to  push it out as-is. I really hope you don't mind. ]]

Houki: “It’s time to end this! In Amaterasu’s name, we fight for honor!”
Bismarck: “Storm and stress won’t hind us, for we are the ironclad Reich!”
Littorio: “Together for Vitória!”
Yamato: “All batteries commence firing! Don’t let me go down!”
Kaiser: “New contact, warship, moving fast! Closing, bearing three-two-nine, long range!”
Roma: “All units begin the attack!”

>When the battle cries are heard, suddenly, some first casualties are reported among the KanMusu side, apparently, the sea must’ve revived all the girls they sunk within the last month, making them even harder to kill than last time.
>In addition, the technology level coming from them is so ancient that it is just as powerful to match any navy’s manpower… capable of one-shot kill volleys on even the highest ranked members.

Irene: “Danger lights on, all attending crew, we’re abandoning the ship!” Irene is lost
Scharnhorst: “Forgive me, Julis…” Scharnhorst is lost
San Giorgio: “Nahhh! They’re…. too… s-s-strong!” San Giorgio is lost
Motecuccoli: “Enemy ship has just sunk me; Italy will not forgive you for this!” Motecuccoli is lost
Emanuele: “Disgraceful sinking, I’ve should’ve warned Erica about this.” Emanuele is lost
Audace: “W-W-What!? I’m not just being someone’s meal for dinner for them, well, this is it from me.” Audace is lost
Nicolosso da Recco: “I’ll put shame on you and your admiral for sinking such a beautiful vessel like me.” Nicolosso da Recco is lost
Max Schultz: “Off to the undersea with me… once more.” Max Schultz is lost
Thetis: “Main pumps overwhelmed, ma’am! We’re going down!” Thetis is lost
Medusa: “Next time I see you, you’re frozen dead!” Medusa is lost
Yahagi: “I’ve had enough… this must end, even with me going down.” Yahagi is lost
Agano: “No… I can’t even… leave, again…” Agano is lost
Yayoi: “Mutsuki… do your best… for me.” Yayoi is lost
Takao: “No… this has got to be the worst time of my life… I’m sinking… best of luck.” Takao is lost

>Akagi and her sister, along with all her carriers, followed by their Axis counterparts, launched not only their Zeroes, Vals, Jills, Kamikazes, Raidens, and Judies, but with their own. They’re not sure what they look like from the IJN’s perspective, but they’re capable… and are willing to put the big hurt as a trio to down the Abyssal aircraft.
>As the air battle commence within the storm, some other KanMusu are having trouble maintaining balance within the waves, taking damage, treating as if they were holding the water line.

Akizuki: “Fubuki, remember the tactic I taught you back in the Philippines!?”
Fubuki: “Yes and our upgraded torpedoes will do the work on them!”
Akizuki: “Take care of the high tide, we’re riding on it! Use the waves to our advantage!”
Amatsukaze: “Time for a surfing, my sister Shimakaze will be pleased!”

>The destroyers hang on to one of the high waves, taking care to duck and weave themselves to avoid being shot at whilst timing their torpedo run.
>They don’t care which ship to sink, as all of them are very resilient, but there is one flaw: the enemy formation looks a bit tight, a recipe for disaster. The destroyers line up their torpedoes before the wave starts descending, speeding up its pace before hitting one side of the formation. Medusa, Shaw, Conway, Chevalier, and Jenkins all go down in one go.
>The battleships and cruisers start launching a combined massive volley onto the front side of the enemy formation, capable of sinking the Nevada, Louisiana, and Arizona, moderate damage on the Alaska, Hawai’i and light damage on the Marigold and Yakutat.

>The submarine teams split up on both sides of the enemy formation, the Japanese team underneath the big wave the destroyers were on, and Italian and German teams on the opposite side, taking Akizuki’s recommended tactic and start dealing big damage with their combined torpedo runs before moving away from the wave, and resuming formation.
>Most of their torpedoes hit home, thanks to their homing upgrade. Heavy damage dealt to Redwood, New Jersey, and Thunderer, moderate damage on some cruisers that got in the way is the Dallas and Atlanta, and light damage on Albacore in its path.
>The seaplane tenders already launch the Mavis to deal with the carriers, with some help from the Axis bombers to do heavy damage to Lincoln, Hornet, Hermes, and the Saratoga, some of their bombs and torpedoes miss completely and hit the water.

>With so many ships on the field, it is hard to gauge how much damage dealt and received in the crossfire, but given the casualties: 30% of enemy aircraft are gone, 14% of Axis aircraft are destroyed, 15 Axis ships and 8 Allied ships are confirmed sunk.
>For non-fatal casualties, the Axis battleships Yamashiro, Nagato, Roma, and Impero took 18, 6, 7, and 10, whereas the cruisers Tenryuu, Furutaka, Ariadne, Leipzig, Tatsuta, and Zara took 4, 3, 9, 11, 6 and 8, respectively. The Allied ships that receive the damage but still live are Alaska, Hawai’i, Redwood, New Jersey, Thunderer, Dallas, Atlanta, Lincoln, Hornet, Hermes, Saratoga, and Albacore with 380, 350, 415, 114, 136, 360, 320, 305, and 375, with their flight decks too damaged to launch their planes, and Albacore took 7 from being in the crossfire.

Edit:

>By luck, the Axis armada manages to sink the enemy Admiral; the morale of the Allied armada is significantly reduced. Ivy is confirmed sunk.
>Despite the admiral's sinking, the battle isn't quite over until it's over.

Even the best-laid plans never survived contact with the enemy, and Ivy's was no exception. Though her choice of tactics was intended to minimize casualties during the opening phase of the battle, the enemy destroyers had somehow closed the gap much faster than anticipated, pulverizing their sides with a veritable tsunami of powerful torpedoes. Then their opening volley reached farther than anyone could have anticipated, sailing right over her head and into the back of their formation.
Struck by a rain of enemy shells, Medusa was among the first casualties. An explosion within her outfit scattered loose bits of spare steel all throughout the center task force, and the repair ship sank in under a minute. Similar fates awaited Arizona and Nevada. And as she squinted through her gunsight to fire off another barrage, Ivy had just enough time to track the next volley of enemy shells right onto her head.
The enemy shells punched small dents in her thick black armor. Individually they did little, but their combined effort managed to breach through to her engine room, stopping the battleship dead in the water.
That was fine, however. Once the smoke had cleared, Ivy found her fairies working tirelessly to patch up the damage and plug up any leaks. A slight lean forward still elicited no pickup from the screws on her feet, but at the very least she could still serve as a floating gun platform. She was still in this fight.

~***~

Meanwhile on the eastern side of the formation, the Abyssal destroyer Marigold gaped in horror as the enemy's opener thrashed her comrades. Jenkins struggled in vain against the seawater accruing in her smoldering outfit, while Conway was knocked clean off her feet and sunk within seconds. Both Shaw and Chevalier listed heavily to one side as the weight dragged down their legs, but they kept fighting to the bitter ends, till their wrist-mounted turrets had disappeared beneath the waves.
Mari's memories flooded back to her all at once. Off the Philippines she'd failed them by being the first to die among her destroyer comrades. Now she'd failed to protect them again, and though they bore neither animosity or resentment for her, their sudden loss produced tremendous strain on Marigold's psyche.
She struggled in earnest to banish the thought from her mind, but the pain was too great. Soon enough, something snapped.
Sensing an indescribable energy building within her, the destroyer swung both her rudders to starboard and sailed right into the enemy destroyer line. New Jersey pleaded from afar for her to stay, but the destroyer would hear none of it.

Destroyer Water Demon Marigold: "You rotten, lowlife, imperialist scum! That's the second time you've killed my friends!"

What happened next would forever remain a blur in the destroyer's memories. She recalled weaving between shots with uncommon agility, dispatching her attackers with three-shot bursts from her twin five-inchers. A lone heavy cruiser couldn't even swing her guns to keep up, and ate an entire volley of her metal fish at close range. Poor bastard never even stood a chance.
Ducking under shells, unloading her cannon as their enemies struggled to keep up. Till eventually she'd zeroed in on what must've been her target. A Japanese-make destroyer - petite with short brown hair - one of the very ships who'd sunk her and her task force off the Philippines.
She recalled careening through the sky, and pouncing on the destroyer with her full displacement. But Mari would never forget the look she had on her face. Initially she'd be shocked by the vessel straddling her chest, the sharp claws closing around her neck, but as the Abyssal planted her barrels against her forehead, her relaxing gaze intimated a sense of resignation.

Destroyer Water Demon Marigold: "Eat it!"

Two shots, right against the main bulkhead. Mari clenched her fist till the struts snapped within Fubuki's conning tower, before tossing her aside and staring down her next victims.

Destroyer Water Demon Marigold: "You want more, huh?! Come and fight me, you cowards!"

~***~

Little did Mari know, her personal rampage hadn't escaped the rest of her fleet. Watching her graceful maneuvers between shots, hearing the unadulterated thoughts expressed via her hoarse voice, the rest of the fleet quickly began to recall their own painful memories.
Of all ships, Hawai'i was among the first to break the formation. Her sister Alaska was quick to follow, sailing headlong into the enemy cruiser formation. Atlanta broke off to tag along, readying her Hedgehog for the sonar signature she'd picked up nearby. And underneath the waves, the Abyssal submarine Angler made a beeline for the enemy's western sub formation. Her sister Albacore struggled to keep up.

Albacore: "Where are we going?! Angie, talk to me!"
Angler: "I've got unfinished business. You're free to tag along."
Albacore: "Angie, c'mon toots!"

Just as the two North American subs were closing to effective range, two volleys from Atlanta's Hedgehogs filled the water around Goya and company. Imbued with powerful spirit, the dozens of bomblets utterly thrashed the Lucian formation and sent all but two of them to the murky depths. Only Goya and Iku survived, and while the latter was afforded a brief torpedo fight with Albacore among the sinking wrecks of broken vessels, Goya hardly had time to react before the Abyssal was upon her.

Angler: "I reckon I'm gonna enjoy this!"

~***~

Even with the losses of Nevada and Arizona, the Abyssal formation still possessed a tremendous barrage from their remaining dreadnoughts. The König and Kaiser fell within a couple shots from the Thunderer's guns, and a concentrated volley from New Jersey and Redwood took out Bismarck and both her escorts.
They'd then swung their guns over to the Italians, dealing heavy damage to Roma and Littorio, and sinking the rest. Redwood alone opted for the Japanese formation, destroying Yamashiro and Kirishima within two deafening volleys. Her next target: The fast battleship Kongou.

Redwood: "Y'know I woulda loved to meet y'all someday! Guess I'll hafta settle for seein' ya in hell!"

Meanwhile, as the two rear Atlantas protected them and the Northampton sisters eviscerated their eastern destroyers and submarines, the Abyssal carriers had been hard at work unjamming their weapons and repairing their flight decks. They'd had the foresight to bring along several large capsules of the black alloy stowed within their ammo bags. With a twist of the capsules and a few strokes along their decks, the alloy hardened within the cracks and restored them to new. Several still suffered heavy damage and even fires across the rest of their outfits, but they paid little mind, and their Secretary's commanding voice saw them raise their guns without a single complaint.

Yorktown: "Carriers, listen up! Our target is the enemy flattops at the rears of their formations."
Hornet: "Heh! We're not pullin' any punches this time are we?"
Yorktown: "Lincoln and Hornet are to target the Italians to the west; Hermes, the Germans to the east."
Hermes: "Aye-aye, c'mmandah! Damn krauts won't even know what hit 'em!"
Yorktown: "The rest of us will target the Lucians. They've still got a massive triple-A battery from those battleships, curve your shots around their main formation."

A resounding cry signaled their affirmation, as Yorktown loaded a glossy navy-blue clip in her Springfield.

Yorktown: "Carriers! On my mark... Fire at will!"

As the Abyssal battleships got off another volley, both sides found their gazes drawn towards the sky. Hundreds of aircraft - perhaps even a thousand - had launched from the back of the Abyssal formation and split in two above the destroyer battle. While Yorktown's Panther jet fighters angled themselves against the enemy interceptors, the formation's attack aircraft skidded about in the air to throw off enemy flak.
Lincoln's Corsairs devastated Sparviero with nearly a dozen Tiny Tim rockets, while Hornet's Mitchells (somewhat of a specialty of hers) left poor Aquila a smoldering pile of metal and splinters.
Graf Zeppelin fared little better. The Mosquitoes swooped in from above faster than her 190s could intercept them, and their twin wing-mounted torpedoes wreaked havoc below her waterline. The unfortunate carrier might've tried to stay afloat, but their hits had ruptured multiple bulkheads, and she was dragged under within five minutes.
That just left the Lucians. Apparently the Abyssals didn't even care about their light carriers. Instead, as a pair of Mustang squadrons kept the Shindens at bay, hundreds of Dauntlesses and Avengers hurled themselves at the very back of their line.
Shoukaku was the first to bite the dust, followed soon by her companion Zuikaku. The enemy bombers showed them no quarter, pounding them with five-hundred-pounders even when they'd been knocked off their feet.
Meanwhile, a rogue sqadron of Avengers rode the coattails of their fighters and swept in from behind. Kaga dodged, but Akagi wasn't so fortunate. A wave from the opposite side knocked Hiryuu out of the fight, before whatever remained of the enemy attack formation turned their sights to the light carriers at the front.
When the dust had settled, only Kaga and a damaged Taihou remained operational among their carrier divisions.

~***~

Ivy's quad triple-turrets made short work of the listing Roma and Littorio. She sensed incredible strain as she lifted her guns towards the Lucian battleships, but it was an agony she was proud to bear.

Taylor: "Yes, that's it! Sink for me, you sons of bitches!"

Her volley fell short of Nagato, but struck Hiei for fatal damage.

Taylor: "You called us monsters, huh?! Saw fit to deceive me, betray me, sink almost my entire fleet, just to ease your sense of security?!"

Another barrage. This time it struck home. Suddenly she found herself cackling like a mad woman as Nagato's magazine lit up.

Taylor: "I'll show you a real monster. Come hell or high water, I'll send every last one of you to the bottom of the ocean!"

Now the admiral trained her sights on the next target. A fine young battleship - tall, toned, baring wide hips and thick thighs - and conveying a sense of majesty seldom seen in any North American vessel. It was none other than the flagship Yamato.

Taylor: "Don't call it a grave, darling. In truth, it's the future you chose."

Many ships were lost this round. For starters, all non-Lucian Axis aircraft carriers have been destroyed.
All non-Lucian battleships have been destroyed.
All Lucian submarines have been sent to the bottom by Atlanta's Hedgehogs and the two Abyssals. Especially Goya.
The following Lucian destroyers were sunk, largely by the Northampton Sisters: Akizuki, Ushio, Kisaragi, Shigure, Yuudachi, Asakgumo, Kazagumo, Amatsukaze, Sazanami, Ushio, and especially Fubuki.
The following cruisers were also sunk, also largely by the Northampton Sisters: Sendai, Nagara, Ooi, Sakawa, Tama, Mogami, Suzuya, Nachi, Kinugaza, Kumano, Tone, Victoria Louise, Leipzig, Trieste, Pola, Luigi Cadorna, and Kuma. You have no idea how much the lattermost hurt me.
The RM Strale was destroyed by a burst from Marigold's five-inchers.
All fleet carriers save Taihou and Kaga are sunk. Taihou's armored decks saved her, but enemy dive bombers still incurred 20 points of damage.
Junyou and Shouhou have sunk, as well as the seaplane tender Mizuho via a pair of Catalinas from Yakutat. The rest of the light carrier formation is otherwise undisturbed.
Among the Lucian battleships, Kirishima and Yamashiro were destroyed by a pair of shellings from Redwood. Hiei caught multiple rounds in the citadel from Ivy's heavy guns, and Nagato soon followed.
Much of the Abyssal formation is visibly enraged by the loss of their comrades. Though many are cloee to sinking themselves, it's likely they won't go down without a fight.

Mutsuki: "YOU'RE ALL GOING TO REGRET KILLING OUR SISTER FUBUKI!"
Nagato: "We need to stop that admiral before she causes any more damage! Get moving! Tenryuu and Tatsuta, engage the admiral with your melee weapons!"
Tenryuu: "We're on it, Secretary! Taylor, it's time... that you begone! This is Tenryuu-sama's attack! Yosha!" draws out her katana
Tatsuta: "Now where's a ship who wants to die? Ufufufu..." draws out her spear
Fubuki: "4 years of training and my life is cut short by them!? Damn it!" Fubuki is lost
Amatsukaze: "My sister... I've failed you..." Amatsukaze is lost
Akagi: "Carriers, just do what you can to avenge my life. I'm done." Akagi is lost

>All surviving Lucian ships also get angry to the point they'll start using their powers.

Kongou: "BURNING... LOVE!"
Mutsuki: "Tsunami salvo!"
Yamato: "SUPER POWER ACTIVATE!"

>At the same time, any leftover German and Italian ships are unfazed at the many sudden deaths the enemy has caused. They have to take out some of the overpowered Abyssal fleet quickly before they get to them.

Diaspro: "C-Cazzo! How in the world did they upgrade themselves! Figures, they're all worth some extra tonnage for us, anyway!"
Corallo: "We must avenge our fallen Littorio, to victory!"
U-86: "Team, we must hurry! The Japanese fleet is in danger! Get around them and sink them like they won't even see it coming!"
Ro: "Yes, ma'am! For the Führer of Lieseltania!"
S90: "We will help you find the two enemy subs! Commence sweeping!"

>The two surviving submarine teams are fed up with their losses, and it's time to pay them back with help from the surface. Disproportionate retribution was handed to them, and now they are going to hand them back.
>As the combined submarine teams from both countries line up their torpedoes, the German destroyers actively start pursuing the enemy submarines Angler and Albacore; the former was sunk by Goya before back in Java Sea, and the latter who fled from the previous battle. To distract the rest of the enemy fleet so they can do their job, a few stray shots are fired at the heavily damaged Alaska and Hawai'i to grab the enemy fleet's attention.
>While the fleet is slightly distracted, the few IJN carriers desperately fired arrow after arrow to keep the enemy aircraft from sinking any more of their friends, especially themselves. Armed for the best of the best, they sent in Kawanishis, Kawasakis, Nakajimas, Manshus, Sallies, Tachikawas, and Yokosukas, the best out of them all to stop them.
>As the Abyssals watch with fear seeing the new plane types, the combined cruisers and the few IJN battleships that still stand use their powers that they never used in a long while for thousands of damage.
>Tenryuu and Tatsuta close in on Taylor, draws out their melee weapons and attempts to sink the Louisiana with direct force, saving their ammunition. Tenryuu glows her katana red whilst Tatsuta also glows her spear red so they can do more damage as a duo.

Yamato: "WE WILL HAVE THE PACIFIC THIS DAY! WE WILL NOT SINK! SAY IT WITH ME! WE WILL NOT SINK!"
All surviving Axis ships: "WE WILL NOT SINK!"
Houki: "Four words for you, Taylor! You will die, bitch!"
Kamoi: "And we will definitely have your corpses for dinner! Time to launch... the Emilies!"

>All enemy carriers are sunk.
>All enemy cruisers are sunk.
>The battlecruisers Alaska and Hawai'i are sunk.
>Angler and Albacore are detected and have taken heavy damage from depth charges, along with some anti-submarine fire, receiving 150 and 120.
>A bunch of IJN aircraft by the hundreds has joined the engagement and has already taken out three-quarters of the Abyssal aircraft with minimal losses, as well as some AA support from the battleships.
>Sadly, the IJN carriers ran out of arrows and cannot retreat.
>Charlotte and Yakutat is heavily damaged, taking in 180 and 375.
>New Jersey and Thunderer take heavy damage, receiving 260 and 295.
>Moderate damage on Marigold receiving 185. She's holding the water line caused by IJN destroyers.
>Light damage on Louisiana and Redwood, taking in 30 and 40. A big fire has started on the Louisiana, adding 80.
>Ivy is now engaged in melee combat with Tenryuu and Tatsuta.

>The battle is now 48 Axis to 10 Allied ships remaining. Houki is still at full strength, whereas Ivy stands at 82%.

2 months later

Eight weeks have gone by since above post, so I have to reopen the sortie in preparation for the second half of this event.

You now have until Halloween to start your second draft. No more than 4 fleets of six as of last time, anyone is free to contribute. If you haven't submitted your shipgirls in time since July, now it is your chance.

Our next set of battles will take place much closer around Japan, Korea, Taiwan, China, and maybe Russia. Any ships I still have from the previous battles I fought that aren't sunk will carry over for the second half is all I have now, as well. The same applies to any opposing team's ships that I didn't manage to sink.

Here is the second half sortie theme:
