2024 New Year's Resolutions

Posts

2013 2023 has felt like a year of massive stagnation for me. The only really notable thing I can think of is getting an E36. I think I put a lot of things off because I wanted to get my flat renovation all out of the way, after all, it's made me unavailable for pretty much every Saturday since I bought the place over a year and a half ago.

Fortunately, the renovation work is nearing completion - it's still very much a building site, but all bar one of the kitchen units are in, after that all that's left is to paint the doors, put the new boiler in, paint, putting the floors in, etc.. So pretty soon, there should be a lot of visual progress in a short space of time, much like when we started tiling the bathroom.

So once it's all done, what I really need to do is improve my social life. I've been feeling really lonely recently, and bar the two or three times I've seen my uni friends this week year, the only people I'd really ever talk to were at work. Now I have some very good colleagues, so they're nice to be around, but I've instead found myself hating weekends. Sure, it's nice not having to get up at first light, but the isolation has really been getting to me recently. I'm at that age where friends are getting married, thinking about kids, while I'm just stressing over whether/how I should ask the cute new girl at the office out. Once I have my weekends back, I hope to be able to see others more often. Nobody invites me out to anything anymore, because the assumption is that I'm not free anyway.

Health is another thing I need to work on. Much like you, COUPLED, I gotta go to the gym. Fortunately, I'm strong enough to get almost anything I'd need done, but an image of masculinity I am not.

malmon Still, the E36 is pretty epic. That's awesome that you'll soon be done with the construction work in your place though!!! Then you can start to make it your own. I feel that w the isolation fr like being a total recluse is not it in my opinion. I'm glad you wana start trying to get out there though : ) I hope you can make some friends. You can make time if you will it to be so go hang out.

I wish you luck on your journey and I believe in you!!!!! 2024 will be a year of progress

COUPLED Fortunately, I do still have friends... We're all just pretty reclusive, I guess ^^'7

I hope you manage to get ahead in work though! It's always nice to feel like you're progressing in some way lol. I suppose in a similar vein I'm trying to get promoted to a senior position. I think I'm slowly getting there, problem is I hate the management aspect of my work - I don't think a lot of the higher-ups are huge fans of how blase I am about project management, and just my general laid-back attitude lol.

What sort of career are you hoping to hop to in 2025? I've no idea what you do now ^^'

malmon I run a paint store, like architectural and industrial coatings. I like the construction industry just bc i like to see things get built and stuff but I'm so tired of the sales side of doin things. I was thinkin becoming a project manager bc my experience translates well into that. Exactly what in project management, i'm not entirely too sure yet but it could be construction, or some sort of tech position but ultimately I need something at least hybrid work from home/in office. idk what else to do haha management is ok, it's what i know so i dont mind til i can get skills for smth else in the long run

I want to get at least decently in shape; how I used to be in high school.

This is probably going to be a long road so I've already started; I've cut out soda entirely and minimize the number of other sugary drinks I consume.

The next step is to build my stamina up over the next few months to the point where it isn't pathetic anymore.

My diet may need some adjustment, if I don't start seeing results after 2-3 months of stamina building I will consider a serious change in diet as well.

Once I have a good amount of stamina for light physical exercises, then I can decide if I want to start going to the gym or just make do without equipment.

This is probably one of the biggest things. It's rather shocking how easy it is to consume ludicrous amounts of sugar when it's dissolved in a drink. At least with ice cream you start feeling sick after a while. I remember I used to drink pretty much nothing but fruit juice. Better than other soft drinks, but I decided to stop after I finally correlated them with my stomach pain. I still drink sugary stuff on some occasions, but I've usually had enough after one glass, and the rest of the bottle sits there for weeks until my mum just has to pour it down the sink lol. Water's surprisingly good once you wean yourself off the sweet stuff.

I think you should easily see results after 2 months regardless of diet (unless you really eat nothing but crap). I was shocked at how quickly my stamina improved after like, 2 or 3 weeks of running most days. Unfortunately, my IBS put an end to it, and I'm back to my sedantry ways.

COUPLED Construction project management... Get ready to deal with many utter morons on a daily basis lol. My dad's pretty broken both physically and mentally from working construction most of his life.

this has been the hardest part by far. Thankfully now a regular Gatorade tastes "too sweet" and it's got half the sugar that Pepsi/Mountain Dew do.

I don't eat as well as I could, and I tend to eat one large meal a day, but the quality is mixed.

I just want to be mentally healthy enough to start making money. That's all. I wanna keep my new year resolution short and simple so I can actually follow through with it.

Short resolutions, or rather, broad resolutions are the way to go. I remember watching a video about it a few years ago, by CGP Grey, I think. Basically saying that going for a theme rather than a fixed target tends to be more successful.

The frequency of meals isn't really as important as quality, I think. There's probably more to it if you're going full workout mode, but otherwise just go with whatever your body responds best to. I prefer having more smaller meals, rather than one large one, but some people feel better after a fast.

malmon how else will i bring about the eternal night?
jk uhhh uhh i mean in video games :3 :3

i do wanna, like, find some way to not be lonely that would be cool
